THIS IS DAMN SHORT!

Are you brave enough to wear this ultra mini Andre Laug silk Jetsons-esque dress/tunic? It's short and cut up to there and has a very futuristic vibe, which isn't surprising since Laug sold drawings to Courreges in the 1960s. He opened his eponymous house in 1968 and passed away in 1984, however his house continues to have a presence from its base in Rome. This black silk V neck dress with sharp capped shoulders and A-line skirt has large magenta polka dots that add a great bold graphic dimension that may be a mini or a tunic depending on the state of your legs and mind!

Andre Laug black silk mini/tunic with magenta polka dots, c. late 1970s. Marked size 42, Modern size 4 to 6.

MORE PATOU FOR YOU

We didn't get enough of the historic Jean Patou Haute Couture by Christian Lacroix archival dresses from Spring/Summer 1987 up on the blog because you guys just bought them from the runway photos! We appreciate you making our lives easier, but we do still have a few to post that haven't sold sight unseen, such as, this butter yellow taffeta pouf dress known as "Hawaii" aka Exit 36. As you know, the collection was never produced because Lacroix left Patou for his eponymous-house with backing by LVMH. Patou sued Lacroix, cancelled the collection, archived the samples, and CL took the pouf with him which became iconic at the House of Lacroix. Own an original pouf and a one of a kind example of Haute Couture!

Jean Patou Haute Couture archive sample dress of yellow taffeta from Christian Lacroix's farewell and un-produced collection "Hawaii"/Exit 36, Spring/Summer 1987 SOLD

IF SATC 2 HAD A PREMIERE IN DUBAI....

If the eagerly anticipated Sex and the City Two had a Dubai premiere, we would say throw on this Anonymous French sand jersey djellaba gown with gold embroidery with a pair of your most decadent sandals and major hoops and work that red carpet. Alas, there isn't a premiere in Dubai, but that doesn't discourage us from saying a little Azzaro-influenced 70s Lawrence of Arabia-drama shouldn't be added to your summer wardrobe. Perfect for entertaining on the yacht in Capri or doing a Tuscan BBQ in the 'Bu, this is a dress for a hostess-with-the-mostess and easy for entertaining until the wee hours. Plus it is divine with flats! You will thank us for that!

CAN'T KNOCK THIS OFF AT TOP SHOP!

One of the attractions of Haute Couture is the intricacy in the details of every design and the fact that each garment is made precisely to the measurements of the owner. When Fast Fashion chains are knocking off ready to wear runway looks in hours, the Haute Couture still remains so rarefied that it becomes difficult to appropriate but certainly inspires. This Alexander McQueen for Givenchy Haute Couture celadon linen coat dress is impossible to knock off and almost as difficult to describe as the fabric swoops across the body in asymmetric waves, the collar dramatically extends over the shoulders, and the elaborately seamed and paneled back makes this as intoxicating coming as it is going. Although McQueen designed at Givenchy just for a few short seasons to mixed results, this custom design of engineered splendor is both one-of-a-kind and a triumph!

QUILTED FOR EXTRA COMFORT

This quilted silk-over sized Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche trench coat is light, soft, and functions very well on a day like today in Los Angeles: high 50s with drizzle. The great shade of periwinkle makes a grey day suddenly perk up. The quilted fabric cushions and is so comfortable. The over-sized silhouette makes it ultra-versatile worn casually with jeans or more formal over a voluminous cocktail dress. It is a great alternative to a dependable Burberry trench, just glammed up a bit as only YSL can do with his legendary Rive Gauche sizzle.

Cocobolo

Cocobolo is a rare Central American hardwood that Yves Saint Laurent chose to make this set out of. He would often incorporate rare woods into his jewelry as a stark contrast to the sleek polished glass and gem stones. This set contains two gold chain bracelets featuring wood disks, A pair of earrings and a necklace. The earrings are hexagonal wood disks set in a gold mesh backing and adorned with triangular amber color resin stones. The necklace is a chain of alternating wood and gold links with amber resin stones and circular wood disks hanging down. The natural warmth of this collection lends itself perfectly to any fabulous Summer ensemble. To learn more about this fabulous rare wood click here.
