If you loved the blue Alaia I just posted, then you might enjoy this one even more. I feel that while the zipper allows easy entry and of course swift exit from that dress. This knit sweater dress, falling off the shoulders is so much more dramatic.

It is also ribbed, it is black and it can be worn in much the same way as the marine blue dress only that much better because its black. I will concede that the long sleeves, make this dress perhaps too heavy and add a certain severity to it, but without which the dress would never come near its greatness as an 80s Alaia. SOLD

ALAIA part 4

While women of the world are taking a step back to classics like the Chanel 80s quilted leather bags, they have also been reviving the opaque black tights, thigh-highs, and stockings of the era. Think Arthur Elgort's British Vogue shoot from 1987. To complete the look however, you need some vintage 80s Alaia. In this recently acquired collection of one woman's vintage Alaia you may find what you are looking for.

This marine blue ribbed sweater dress zips up the front and is extremely body conscious. The collar can be popped or folded flat. Epsom Rouge Garance 30cm Birkin

The Birkins keep coming and we keep posting. This simply gorgeous Epsom Rouge Birkin in Garance leather and Palladium hardware is 30cm. It is so brand new that it was only purchased last week and is blind stamped J square which means it is this years', 2006.

The bag speaks for itself, but I will say this. Unlike the typical trend in Birkins, where larger is better, I feel that this bag is such a chic accessory to carry at night. It is the perfect size not too big and not too small, and allows its wearer to ascend to a higher echelon of elegant dress. SOLD

If you want to stroll into a board meeting, bring the old fogies to their knees and get the lawyers on your side its only going to take one sweet little outfit.

This Alaia Prince of Wales check short/suit romper is so outrageous its amazing. Shoulder pads and all, this dress is pure power suiting. What's more is that this suit is not super tiny so more than just the super waif thin actresses can buy it. The bow at the front adds a slight feminine touch to the otherwise masculine themed suit, however the plunging neckline definitely allows you to put your womanhood on display in the most demure way. Maybe melon is not quite your color, but Alaia certainly lays thick on your palette. Feast your eyes on this. Also, a side note, excuse my exuberance but you can understand if you look at this mini collection of dresses. Really quite amazing to think that women walked around or danced it down in these dresses a mere 20 years ago.

This stretch lace, plunging neckline minidress is ridiculous, to use the parlance of our times. Lined with a nude foundation layer you can still be sexy while keeping your dignity. SOLD

Biba

With Biba in the midst of making a major comeback, a shop recently opened in San Francisco if you can believe that, and Spring 2007 line just months away at Decades we have to say. Vintage is still in!

The new collection, which showed in London two weeks ago, didn't receive the best reviews so try on some original Biba from the 60s. This hot pink crepe cocktail dress is vampy and sultry. The covered button cuffs suggest a touch of Saville Row tailoring, while the cut-out bust is all Carnaby Street freelove. A super cute look for a super cute girl this dress is as hot as the color! Pierre Cardin disco ball!

When you think you have the night fever, and the music is all around, you have one choice in life, it's the time to get on down. Don this Cardin tunic glittering disco ball, the night is young and so are you, it's time for Carnival!

Enough of the cheesy poetry. This Pierre Cardin Couture mini-dress has Kimono style sleeves, mini-mirror sequins all over and is made of steel jersey. It is dated to the 1970s. I know it may look like a step in the wrong direction, but if you can dress this down, it will dress you up. The trick will be to wear the clothing and not allow the clothing to wear you. This being the case it has to be approached with predominantly black accoutrements. No excessive jewelry and no over-sized handbags. Otherwise its perfect! SOLD

YSL at his best sans mans

Do forgive my artistic negligence when taking this first photo, I realize it is slightly startling to see a mannequin without its appendages. However the focus is on this dress. Exactly where it ought to be. Think, 70s and think Spanish inspired. Then black simply as a rule and add a touch of Yves Saint Lauren Rive Gauche and you have this utterly outstanding ensemble.

As you will see this Spanish styled chiffon evening gown trimmed with furry pompoms can be worn in an array of ways. The top blouse can be worn on its own or as part of the ensemble. And the skirt can be hiked up to be worn as a strapless gown with belt. The chiffon is not as sheer as it appears in the photos, this simply happens from the flash reflecting off the white mannequin. Black with a hint of Red

If you are a staunch Chanel aficionado, then you most likely appreciate this particular incarnation. Black quilted leather, with red piping and gold chain woven with leather straps.

Of course from the 80s, this bag is irresistible. On the back is a scooped envelope like pocket that also has the red piping. Although the straps appear to be short in the photo they are full length and are simply hidden inside the bag for the purpose of these photos. Unfortunately this bag has Sold, but I thought you should see what you missed out on.

Shall we take it a little further?

If the Chanel 'power purse' is not your cup of tea, then perhaps we can wet your taste buds with one of these two brilliant clutches.

While the colors look the same, the top suede clutch is black and the bottom is navy. They both have the same opening spring mechanism which opens the top into a square allowing for maximum access to the interior of the bag. The pull tab has the double 'C' logo as you can see, and of course the signature quilting. Both bags measure 9x7 inches and date to the 80s.

Weekend Happenings.

Over the past weekend we has a few of our favorite, lovely ladies adorn themselves in pieces they found at Decades.

Teri Hatcher, dressed in contemporary Azzaro by Vanessa Seward was seen at the 2006 Women's World Award show. This line is not sold at decades but we assist stylists and their clients who wear it for the red carpet. As such she is one of our gals. Cheers to you Ms. Hatcher.

Salma Hayek, on the other hand found herself going to the 21st Annual American Cinamateque Awards honoring George Clooney, with nothing to wear. Her solution? This classic, elegant and vivacious early 80s Lagerfeld for Chanel tulle and satin gown. With a hip jutted out to her right, the dress moves with her body in perfect synchronization. Sold
