THE LAYERED LOOK ISN'T JUST FOR WINTER

Giorgio Sant'Angelo has a rather large oeuvre of designs ranging from 60s tie-dyed Hippie and Gypsy designs; to 70s Disco ready primary colored chiffon; to 80s Swarovski encrusted body-conscious stretch jersey. Sant'Angelo was an integral part of these three dynamic decades of fashion and this lilac layered crepe jersey day dress below is pure 70s minimalism packaged in a maximum of color. The construction of the dress features two coordinated layers of creped jersey attached at the top of the shoulders. That is the only place where they are connected so it feels like two layered dresses, although the top layer has an asymmetric hem that reveals the bottom layer. It all gets tied in together by the coordinating sash. So layers aren't just for winter!

And the Envelope Goes To...

Bottega Veneta, known for their unique leather-weaving technique, took a departure from the norm when they created this envelope style, tri-fold bag. Complete with not one, but two openings of varying styles (the back is a basic snap closure while the front features a tassel and pull type of closure). The strap provides an easy way to carry the bag traditionally over the shoulder or across the chest, for effortlessly chic daytime appeal.

The forest-green color is not only great for anchoring a flowy summer dress with the perfect wedge heel, this color also lends itself to an easy autumn accessories transition. The diagonally embossed grid design offers immense texture to this treasured Bottega piece. Grab a summer dress that inspires you, a pair of shades, and declare that "the Envelope Goes To...You!"

Bottega 4 Everyone!

Just a little tease for today, "when your own initials are enough" prepare for a feast of leather goods over the coming week. We will be posting several 80's Bottega Veneta bags in delicious, vintage jewel-toned hues.

Phillip (not Lim)!

Every now and then a designer comes along with a rich history of culture, travel, and the right amount of Hollywood clout to set the fashion world on fire. This is exactly the story of the late Phillip Hulitar. From accompanying his mother to fashion shows in Paris as a young boy, to dressing Hollywood's elite, Mr. Hulitar definitely knew how to merge the intricacies of Haute Couture with the demands of Hollywood's powerhouses.

This muted-pink 1950s gown is one of Hulitar's signature creations just before his retirement in 1964. Made of satin and taffeta, everything about this piece tells us it's the perfect choice for a lovely summer black-tie event. Even better, the forgiving cut and pleated detail of this gown will force any insecurities about one's figure to fade once you slip it on. The petticoat (not pictured below) is a must-have for added volume and drama at any hot-ticketed summer gala. We also find the satin bows a nice addition; making this gown black-tie perfection for ages 15 and beyond!

WHO CORRALLED THE CORAL HALSTON?

THE CORAL CORRAL

We had this coral Halston in our window, but that was last month so now this dress has been set free from the corral and ready for a savvy Decades client to put her lasso around this great example of 70s American glamorous and chic attire. The foundation of this dress is a layered halter gown with wide obi-inset waistband that allows for a demi-gathered dress to emerge. However, it's more then just a halter dress as an attached cape cascade offers typical Halston Studio 54 flair. This Halston may scream the 70s but it doesn't look anachronistic at all at a chic summer fete in 2010. That's the beauty of Decades, since we are all about timeless and iconic style.

Halston coral chiffon halter gown with attached cape, c. 70s. Modern size 4 SOLD

Wedded Bliss

Unless you've been hiding in a cave, we're sure you are aware wedding season is underway. While many brides may choose a traditional wedding designer to outfit them, turning to a non-traditional wedding designer could equally suffice (and sometimes offer an extra dose of flair).

Known for his insistence on beauty and quality, Olivier Theyskens created nothing short of that when he sent this gown for Rochas down the runway during his Spring-Summer 2005 show. The first image above shows the actual gown on the runway in black. Meaning this gown was perhaps specially created in ivory, awaiting the perfect bride to be.

Made of ecru taffeta, this evening gown is definitely befitting any bride in search of both craftsmanship and beauty. This gown's bustier features a delicately placed peony and its construction is thoughtfully tiered, providing both a voluminous silhouette and a lot of drama. And if that doesn't seem impressive enough, this gown also comes with a matching bed coat that's intricately edged in folded ecru taffeta--perfect for continuing the festivities well into the chilly night.

Trigere to DIE for

Here at Decades we LOVE getting all dolled up for that special occasion. But during the summer months, appropriate party attire can often be stifling. So, for those of us who cannot muster the strength to slip on yet another breezy, one-shoulder chiffon number. . . BEHOLD! Pauline Trigere has produced the dress of our dreams.

The silk dress pictured below is incredibly light, almost as light as a single sheet of paper. The textured and crinkled silk fabric has some rigidity thus, allowing it to maintain its perfectly architectural lines. Dove grey and charcoal tulips are splashed across the fabric giving it a very fresh summery appearance. We suggest you style this dress with a great bright belt and shoes - something unexpected; just like this dress!
