THE NEW BLUE

Have you noticed the new blue? It seems like electric blue is the new midnight blue which was the new black. We've always had a thing for blue, but we are really down with this Loris Azzaro electric blue mermaid gown from the late 1970s which has a very vamp 1940s quality to it. Rihanna rocked the electric blue Zac Posen at the Grammys last week, so who is going to rock this electric blue vintage Azzaro? Clearly, not someone shy! This Loris Azzaro gown features all-over pailette sequins to create a mermaid effect with a fishtail hem and open back. The scoop tank bust line includes a neck collar which is used beautifully when you turn around and reveal the gorgeous back detail.

Not for the faint of heart, but this gown has enough wattage that it could power a city or at least the Crystal Ballroom of the Beverly Hills Hotel.

CALLAGHAN BY GIANNI VERSACE

Rarely do we receive two of the same gowns, but low and behold, here are TWO Gianni Versace designed gowns that were made for Callaghan, a popular label in the late 1970s through 1980s. Both are viscose jersey elasticized waist halter gowns with knit trimmed halters, featuring revealing backs and dramatic keyhole fronts. Both are also unworn, deadstock gowns. With spring fashions in all the stores, think of these gowns which can be dressed up or down for all your warm weather travels.

TANGERINE DREAM

You may have seen this vintage Pierre Balmain Haute Couture gown in the current March 2008 issue of In Style. It's Cameron Silver's pick for favorite vintage gown for the Oscars. This degrade chiffon evening gown is a rare catwalk sample which is stamped "Pierre Balmain Genevieve" (likely named for the model for whom it was made) as well as additional labels "411-Aurora" and "Barbara 411" who were likely the petites mains who made the gown. This intoxicating gown starts off peach and gradually takes on a stronger tangerine shade closer to the hem. We adore the chiffon train with ostrich feather trim, too.

JACQUELINE DE RIBES DOES JEAN DESSES

This is one of our favorite recent arrivals. We have been posting a lot of Jacqueline de Ribes lately and we adore this strapless and very elaborately draped chiffon gown with a tri-color woven top. It has a very interesting system to snap the dress closed on the side which insures that the illusion of how you put on this amazing gown remains a mystery in the eye of the beholder. We love the swags of fabric that hang from the gown, too. This is such a red carpet winner!

Truly, this gown is an homage of Jean Desses' famous Goddess gowns of the 1950s. Which Goddes of the 21st Century will make this gown come alive once again?

FEELING BLUE?

Feeling blue? We sure are always drawn to blue, as well. This Chanel quilted leather purse from the 1980s makes our brown eyes blue! CHANEL CROCO ATTACKS

Here is an unusual Chanel late 1980s brown crocodile purse with the classic and subtle embossed interwoven "C"s on the front flap. The entire purse is framed by brown leather coordinating piping that repeats in the signature woven chain strap. It's luncheon size, but also acceptable for an evening out, too.

MY LITTLE PONY PART TWO

It's so busy here at Decades and so many amazing things have arrived. Tomorrow we will post a slew of late 1980s Chanel bags, including a few medium sized totes. We also have some gorgeous gowns to get up on the blog in the next few days, too.

In the meanwhile...So you missed the pony fur Birkin we posted last week since it sold in 60 seconds and you are cursing yourself...but, wait, here is another pony variation, but this time a Hermes Kelly from 1993 in bone leather trim and crinoline woven horsehair. It's very rare to find the crinoline bags and this one is in such sublime condition, it takes our breath away.
