WINTER RIGHT

The Winter White Coat is not as high maintenance as The Winter White Boot, yet white has its pitfalls. But, it is soooo worth it. Is there anything more belle du jour delicious than this Yves Saint Laurent winter white wrap coat with MAJOR white fox collar? It is so seductive in many ways. The coated rain-repellent-fabric coat offers drama (white fox), warmth, and a bit of practicality when you consider how challenging a white coat can be in a sloppy city. What we particularly love about this coat is its versatility as one could easily wear it casually in the day, but confidently in the evening over a cocktail dress or gown. The right evening coat is always a predicament on a winter's eve, so the Decades shopper is wise to consider this "topper" as the temperates dip below the 60s and under in the coming weeks.

MAD MEN FOR SCAASI

If you watch "Mad Men" then the style of this dress is quite familiar to you: a strapless floral dress with a wasp waist and bubble skirt. It's the look of Season Three! This is very typical of early 1960s American fashion and promises a woman a curvy silhouette and is ideal for cocktail hour when it really meant putting on a cocktail dress and having cocktails. Times have changed. Arnold Scaasi uses a vibrant purple background on this silk faille dress and further enhances it with an abstract red floral pattern that gathers from the top of the bustier portion down to the red bowed waist. Between the sophisticated floral pattern, sensual silhouette, dramatic back, and jewel-tone colors, how can one go wrong wearing this to a "grown up" event? With runways filled with 1980s and early 1990s references as of late, a dress that is nearly fifty years old looks fresh in the mixed sea of maxi and minimalist fashions that all try so hard to be "edgy." Perhaps, overt femininity is the new edgy!

Rhodes to Somewhere

For that Indian Summer we are all hoping for, we submit this Zandra Rhodes dress as the perfect uniform. The yellow chiffon has an amazing black and pink avant-garde floral design over it. The center of the dress has small flowers fashioned from a combination of sequin and pearls. The dress has a keyhole opening in the front neckline that has been lined with small oblong pearls. Under the chiffon layer is a yellow drop waist tank dress, so as not to be to revealing. Perfect for that last summer party before the seasons change (as if they ever change in Southern California) or that oddly warm weather in autumn.

STONED!

The idea of mixing the words "stoned" and "Hermes" in the same sentence may shock a few of our blog fans, but let us explain ourselves. We get "high" on Hermes and when presented with the lethal combo of a stone colored suede late 60s trench coat that has been masterfully designed by Hermes and lined in a cashmere/wool jersey H pattern lining, we are ready for Hazelden! There are trench coats and then there are TRENCH COATS. This is the ultimate trench coat in the softest of suede with a lean and long silhouette with high arm holes and a slight bracelet sleeve length. Not only is the coat made beautifully (that's a given as it is Hermes of Paris), but the pattern of the coat is feminine and functional. Vintage suede trench coats from Hermes do not grow on trees and even more unusual is to acquire one in a light suede color that is also in extremely good condition for a 40-plus year old coat. It really doesn't get any better than a trench coat designed by Hermes in glove-soft suede. Some may get high off champagne or cocaine, but we get a kick out of this Hermes trench coat. Cole Porter could have written a stanza about this treasure!

Ombre Anyone?

Judith Leiber is the Queen of the minaudiere, and this is a great example of a simple shape with an amazing pattern. Who doesn't like a good ombre, especially when it's pink? The crystals covering this minaudiere start with ruby red at the base, then bubble gum pink, pale pink and finally clear at the top. Not a single crystal is missing from the pattern, this bag is in perfect condition. There are three gold vertical lines giving the bag a 4x4 pattern, and the interior is lined with gold leather. The gold chain can be used as a shoulder strap or tucked in to use as a clutch. This is the perfect bag for that outfit that needs a simple shot of of color.

Most Amazing

This is either the chic-est robe in the world, or a most amazing coat! The material is a woven virgin wool and viscose blend in a classic Azzedine Alaia leopard pattern. It feels like terry cloth but we assure you it is not. The collar is oversized and drops past the shoulders, and the oversized cuffs are meant to be turned up. The three quarter length of this piece hits just at the knee on woman of 5'9" ( judging by the mannequin ). There is a belt in the same material as the rest of the coat so it disappears while providing a perfect shape. The perfect accessory for this coat would be pearls and possibly a pair of black patent Louboutin heels.

Pucci Kootchie

Just in time for those last few days of summer we present Emilio Pucci in all his glory. We have two silk jersey dresses, both in variations of pink, yellow and white color patterns.

The first dress is is a crew neck long sleeved pull over with a circular pattern. The zipper runs down the back of the dress.

Second is a geometric pull over dress. This dress also has a crew neck and long sleeves, but the zipper runs down the front of this dress.

Really you just need to decide if you prefer it in the front or in the back. Then there's the question of rounded or edgy. If you simply can't be bothered to make such terribly complicated decisions, buy them both and experiment.
