AMERICAN WOMAN
Hello friends of Decades who are attending the Costume Institute Gala on May 3rd and are trying to find a gown, please note that the theme is NOT American Designers, but rather the American Woman and the archetypes of fashionable women from 1890 to 1940 such as The Gibson Girl, The Heiress, and The Flapper, for example. Sure it is nice to wear something American, but the majority of the clothing in the exhibit is French from Jean Patou, Coco Chanel, and Madeliene Vionnet. Only a few American Couturiers existed at this time and they include, Elizabeth Hawes, Charles James, and Valentina. You are not expected to wear American or early 20th Century fashion, rather we encourage you to find something amazing that celebrates great style of any era by any designer of any nationality. We have so many options and anything from DECADES is good enough for the MET gala!
