Living in a Zandra Moment, Part 1

For twenty years, Zandra Rhodes' feathery, Bohemian-influenced dresses were some of the fashion world's best-kept secrets--the superior fabrication, design, and unique prints made both vintage and contemporary pieces highly collectable. But when the New York Times is singing your praises, as they did in this very excellent piece last month, word tends to get around.

Decades just received a trunkload of zany Zandra's best work, and we're sharing it with you this week in two huge posts! The blue deep V-neck kimono pictured below is ornately beaded and decorated in pink and mocha tribal elements, but it's the satin cumberbund that really wows us. For a louder Zandra statement, you might like the day dress beneath it--this time, in darker blue, the print really dominates the dress in vivid black and fern. Looking for something simple and understated? The third dress in our installment is a simple and chic nymph dress, similar in style to this dress posted last month.

Zandra Rhodes Aquamarine Beaded Chiffon Kimono with Mocha and Pink Pattern, c. 1970s. Fits a contemporary size 4. SOLD
Zandra Rhodes Cobalt Blue Beaded Chiffon Day Dress with Wild Black and Fern Print, c. 1970s. Fits a contemporary size 4 to 6. SOLD

Zandra Rhodes Aquamarine Chiffon Nymph Dress with Draped Back, c. 1970s. Fits a contemporary size 4 to 6. SOLD

Living In A Zandra Moment, Part 2

Here's Part 2 of our Zandra Rhodes collection! The first item, a sky blue and seafoam day dress, features a long train that doubles back and ties around the waist with an oversized marigold satin ribbon. It's also ornately beaded at the seams and adorned with a tribal pattern. The second dress certainly constitutes a descent from the traditional Zandra Rhodes fare--it's strapless party dress with optional halter neck! Check out the ornamental tassels and beaded applique, it's pretty nifty. Finally, a whimsical long sleeve white country dress with vivid rose and amaranth detail that's perfect for any age.

Christina and Jada Rock Looks from Decades

As much fun as the Emmys were, the red carpet just keeps getting safer and safer... after awhile, the most you can muster is a yawn! Not so with the next two Hollywood glamour girls. First up is indie darling Christina Ricci, seen sporting a new 'do in a white Hervé Leger bandage dress at a recent event in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, actress Jada Pinkett-Smith stole the pre-show at "The Kingdom" premiere in a fuchsia Yves Saint Laurent tuxedo ensemble, c. 1980s. Jada's a perennial favorite here, and she pulls off this brilliant piece effortlessly (Fashion Week Daily agrees). Both gals found their sexy digs at Decades!

Hermes Luxe-a-Roll, Part 2!

Last week, Decades brought you five fabulous Hermes Jige clutches that are practically sold out. Today, in our second installment of what we like to call the "Luxe-a-Roll," we have two classic Hermes Rio clutches in this season's most fashionable color pairing: navy and black! A discreet but luxurious evening clutch, each features buttery calfskin leather, contrast stitching, and a simple yet elegant slide closure. Check back tomorrow for Part 3... it's going to be the best installment yet!

Stars Rock the Emmys, Decades Style!

Hollywood kicked off the awards show season tonight in style with the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards at the Shrine Auditorium! As always, there were fashion hits and misses; but there were some real standouts, and they came from Decades! Before you can even ask, "what were they wearing?," we're here with the answers...

Actress and model Rebecca Romijn of ABC's "Ugly Betty" exuded sophistication and classic Hollywood sex appeal in a Guy Larouche Haute Couture drop-waist beaded tank gown with sway skirt from the 1970s.

Actress Rachel Griffiths, nominated for her role as Sarah Whedon on ABC's "Brothers & Sisters," rocked out in a Chanel Haute Couture by Karl Lagerfeld bustier dress, c. 1980s.

Hostess with the mostest Stacy London, style correspondent for "Access Hollywood" and star of TLC's "What Not To Wear," glammed it up in a crimson Estevez swag dress, c. 1970s.

Of course, we'd be remiss if we didn't acknowledge one of our favorite couples of the evening: Portia de Rossi, who wore a spectacular serpant gown by Azzaro by Vanessa Seward with Boucheron square-cut diamond studs, and Ellen DeGeneres, who spiffed up a classy tux jacket with Boucheron's signature Delilah woven gold and diamond-studded necklace. Brava, ladies!

We've Been Busy!

Forgive us if we are a little distracted with updating and adding new items to the blog. The store is a mad-house as the Emmy's are this Sunday and we're living on a diet of spanks and Perrier! In the meanwhile, don't forget that the blog goes back well over a year and there are GREAT items from the past that may have no sold so we invite you to check out old posts.

And for those feeling like a little fashion analysis, do check out Cameron Silver's premiere blog on The Huffington Post! Plus, brava to Cathy Horyn and her insightful review of the new and absolutely gorgeous Marc Jacobs collection. Marc is bringing sexy back in a new and feminine way... Vulgar is OVER!

Mel B. Hits the Jackpot in Vegas!

Scary Spice hardly looked scary at MTV's Video Music Awards in Las Vegas tonight. Rather, she looked svelte, sexy, and stylish in her vintage Herve Leger lilac dress she found at Decades. There were some fantastic train wrecks on the red carpet tonight, but Melanie Brown was a class-act.

JUDITH LEIBER TIMES 3

Once is not enough, twice is not enough, and although the third time is a charm, we just can't stop posting this fantastic Judith Leiber alligator handbags in fun shapes and intoxicating colors. Take for example the three options from the 1980s below:

The bright jade alligator bag is shaped like an oversize coin purse but in a bold color with a silk tassel and woven strap. It's the type of bag that makes a basic ensemble have a bold statement. It's 5¼" by 5½".

The black alligator bag with cord strap has a secret compartment that can hold a change of jewels via a snap and release. The top compartment won't hold much more than bail money, $100 bill, your house key, and a slim phone and we don't mean a Blackberry. It's cute as a button 6" by 2½" by 4½". SOLD

The final selection is a fantastic steel gathered oversized alligator clutch with a dramatic industrial two-tone bar at the top of the bag. It's that pefect size...not too big and the color is really distinctive. 10¼" by 5¼" by 3". SOLD

"Collecting 20th-century fashion is like collecting 20th-century art... when we look back at fashion history the first half of the 21st century will be known as 'the vintage years' because it's the one really identifiable trend to have happened."
So says Cameron Silver, owner of the legendary Los Angeles vintage boutique Decades, in this piece by Alice Olins for The Times. They now know what you, dearest reader, already know... Decades is simply the finest!
