THE REAL 4TH OF JULY LOOK

Helo Everyone!

I am leaving tomorrow for Paris to attend the Haute Couture shows and I will blog about everything for The Huffington Post (y'all better ream them!), so my personal blogs on the Decades blog may be few and far between, but Eri and Jarred will be blogging while I am away. I will be spending the 4th of July in Paris, but if I were hosting a BBQ in Los Angeles, I would be so happy if someone arrived wearing this amazing Claire McCardell swimsuit. Actually the swimsuit is quite Parisian as the print references Fernand Leger in name and style. What you don't see under the romper are the matching print panties, so feel free to do cartwheels and really romp in this romper without shwing too much. Click on one of the pictures below to see the print up close. It's quite charming. The neckline is ultra flattering and this is a true collectible. I am always mad for McCardell...she created modern American sportswear for women in the 1940s and 50s and her designs are totally relevant today and this is totally appropriate for Monday's 4th of July whether in Paris or Peirora.

ROMANTIC LACE

Lace has always been synonymous with romance and sophisticated simplicity . A lace dress never goes out of style, as it conjures images of timeless graceful elegance (from Grace Kelly to the new Duchess of Cambridge).
This gorgeous strapless Chanel gown is a creation of Karl Lagerfeld during the second year after he joined the House of Chanel, revitalizing the spirit and the identity of Chanel. This Chantilly lace dress in midnight navy is such a modern touch against the traditional creme and black lace used often for evening wear.
The dress hugs the body beautifully due to a built in bra support structure lined by cream colored silk crepe layer, the fitted silhouette drops to ankle length in a double tier lace ruffles, scaled in front, a very thoughtful detail which will serve to show off the shoes...and most importantly much easier to dance around!!
It is the perfect dress for all occasions, social events, red carpet or just simply wear it for a romantic candlelit dinner. A timeless treasure that celebrates being a woman.

WHAT TO WEAR TO THE OPENING OF RESTORATION HARDWARE?

Last Thursday, Restoration Hardware opened a Flagship store in Los Angeles on Beverly Boulevard. What to wear? As a co-host for the opening, I chose Simon Spurr and wore a dickie. There's something about hardware and a dickie that made sense. One of my other co-hosts for the evening was the lovely, stylish, and epically talented Marisa Tomei (photographed above with yours truly and Jamie King). Marisa choose a great vintage Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche printed crepe 40s style two piece from Decades (dah) that was quite the hit of the evening. Of course she looked fabulous and when you wear vintage it's pretty much a guarantee that no one else will be dressed in the same outfit (two women were both wearing the white Tom Ford tux and none was too pleased). Marisa looked so sharp, chic, and effortless and you can, too. This looks great as an ensemble and also the blouse and skirt would work wonderfully when worn individually with a pair of jeans or a simple tank, respectfully. The original owner of this ensemble is chic for weeks (we had many repeated closet parties as we edited her collection) so know that from her home to your home, this has good vibes!

YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN I AM GOING TO DROP BY!

My lovely friend and Decades client, Chantelle Wong, sweetly hosted a wonderful dinner party on Friday night when I was in Vancouver for a project with Louis Vuitton. She wisely chose to wear a dress from Decades and it made me smile (and for those who see my FB pics I don't smile easily). Thank you Chantelle and George for a fun dinner and I loved meeting all your incredible friends! I had so much fun I stayed an extra night and went to see Riri thanks to the fabulous Mr. and Mrs. Wong.

WHAT TO WEAR ON THE 4TH OF JULY

I haven't been in the States on the 4th of July for over a decade. I tend to be in Paris as the Haute Couture shows are always at that time, and this year is no exception. I would encourage the stylish American to dress domestic on the 4th of July regardless of where she is celebrating Independence Day and what better way to do so than in this red, white, and blue Bill Blass halter jumpsuit of polished cotton. We had another Blass jumpsuit a few weeks ago and that was snatched up quite quickly by one of my favorite Brits. Now you don't have to possess a US Passport to work this look, so as the United Nations of Fashion, I say anyone with style should procure this universally appealing design. If you are a Brit, it's the colors of your flag, too. And Bastille Day is the 14th of July, so our French friends are encouraged to don some American "apparel" sans guilt. Vive La Couture!

SUMMER OF THE CAFTAN

If it is summer then it is caftan time and we have you covered! Not just in any caftan, but in an unusual Stavropoulos chiffon print (think early 70s Hippie Couture -- the print could be tribal but the colors are more subtle LSD chic) with a signature Stav layered jersey slip dress of flame orange silk. Together, you are covered up in all the right places. Alone, the chiffon piece could be quite sexy over a bikini and why not wear the jersey slip solo. also? So many options, so little time. In no time it will be fall and you will be asking us for coats. So get in this caftan and get somewhere sunny like Greece. Stav would have approved!

MOD HIGH

We here at Decades are in a Courreges high today after receiving 5 beautiful dresses for all occasions. They are all a clear signature of Courreges silhouette and have been copied by all and have inspired many designers for the last 4 decades ...now you can own an original for all occasions. We will post separately each one so stay tuned!
In the 90's The house of Courreges hired Jean Charles de Castelbajac to design under direct supervision of Monsieur Courreges himself. A firm believer in the notion that "fashion that changes radically every two years is abnormal" Courreges continued to stay true to his 60's revolutionary silhouette.
This 100% textured cotton in a pale pink brush stroke print is the perfect dress for a picnic or a brunch date.

LA GRANDE VITA

Vibrant colours and supermodels ...this was Versace in the 90's. Gianni Versace created pieces which reflected the Italian 'grandezza". He drew from the neo classicistic masterpieces especially in his prints and colors, and pushed the limits of what was fashionable as if questioning the existing universal agreement on good taste.
His ad campaigns featuring Christy, Linda, Naomi were shot by most famous photographers like irving Penn and Steven Meisel in big production settings becoming such capolavoro in their own right. Gianni Versace experimented with fabrics, cuts and textures as much as colors and this dress is a combination of both. It is a show stopper in its bright green color, the metal mesh texture and the low neckline make for a sexy drape. This is a late 90's design, created by Donatella Versace after Gianni's tragic passing. In true form of other memorable "Versace Green Dresses" (followed by Jennifer Lopez's green jungle dress in 2000) It is more than a dress, it is a timeless piece of Italian art and fashion history.

BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL

"Men don't dare" said famously french designer Paul-Louis Orrier. He only designed for women because "they are fun and can never overdo it". Color blocking is really hot right now, it has come back with a bang, loud and unapologetic much like this dress. It is very difficult to combine these bright colors on your own but this dress has done that for you. From the deep magenta to the bright emerald green this color palette is sure to compliment your new tan. Be bold in color, unafraid and dare to wear ....everything that puts you and those around you in a festive good mood!
