Leonard for Ladies

Here's to the ladies who lunch in Leonard! This deceptively lady-like crepe chiffon dress with a yummy butterscotch iconic floral print features puffy sleeves and a girly-flair skirt hem. It is lady like, but it's also quite sexy, in a very Parisian-way...one is covered, but your figure will fill out this dress and it sure shows off the legs. Perfect for spring!

Leonard early 80s crepe print chiffon dress. Approx contemporary size 6. SOLD

Who wore Decades?

Hollywood's fashion cognoscenti know that Decades is the only place to shop when the ordinary simply won't do. Just take a look at the leading ladies who showed up in Decades vintage at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday:

CHLOE SEVIGNY -- vintage Thierry Mugler white crepe cut out dress, c 80s.

RACHEL GRIFFITHS -- vintage Yves Saint Laurent Spanish collection black chiffon ensemble c. 70s.

AERIN LAUDER -- vintage Yves Saint Laurent strapless dress in midnight with chiffon swag c 70s.

We thought they all looked fantastic! Apparently, so did fashion blog Who What Wear Daily, which went head-over-heels for our vintage-clad ladies. Scroll down the page to catch their rave review.

A Vision In Green

This anonymous couture piece is dated 1994, but it definitely takes a cue from the fashion playbook of Seventies songstress Stevie Nicks. Now, you can go your own way in sexy, assymetric drapes of apple green crepe chiffon. Fits a size 4. SOLD

Anonymous Couture Bias-Cut Gown With Apple Green Draping, Printemps/Eté 1994.

Gorgeous Thierry Mugler Cutout Dress

Decades shoppers know that lately, we've been simply mad for Thierry Mugler. Nor are we the only ones--with futurism making a comback on the catwalk, one can't help but be reminded of the angular, metallic creations that made Mugler an icon of 80s fashion. This white crepe cutout dress is a descent from the rigidity that marked so many of his designs. Beautifully draped strips fall around the bust and arms, falling into a pleated carwash skirt that is distinctively Mugler. Marked as a size 36, fitting a contemporary size 4 or 6.

Tracy Mills Colors of the Rainbow

I confess, I have no knowledge of Tracy Mills other than she designed evening and cocktail dresses in the 1980s. I do know that this rainbow iridescent strapless dress with swag front in pretty fantastic. If anyone knows about Tracy Mills, keep me informed, in the meanwhile, if you are looking for a futuristic and sexy dress, but this one. It's a contemporary size 6.
Update on Tracy Mills from a nice person who was a friend of Tracy and sent us this email:
Tracy was a he. His atelier was in NYC. It is my understanding that he died of AIDS related complications sometime in the early 1980’s. He was a dear friend of dear friends of ours, also sadly, victims of that same dreadful scourge. He designed high end frocks for socialites and stars. I have had the pleasure of having worn some of Tracy’s show stopping designs.

JAMES GALANOS 80S BY WAY OF 50S

This is a very interesting James Galanos strapless dress that was originally sold at the famed Martha boutique. Although the silhouette is pure 1950s the fabric is very contemporary: (this was likely designed in the early 1980s) a textured and quilted sheen with red polka-dots, almost giving it a "fetish" quality. The big red rose gives a bit of Carmen drama. Approximately a contemporary size 6.

Beene There, But Have You Done That?

I know we keep posting these gorgeous halter gowns with their backs revealed first, but that's what we love about a halter...they look as sexy coming as they do going. This early 80s Geoffrey Beene is really quite unusual. A sexy sequin halter with subtle hip inserts in an unexpected silk floral pattern which gets totally revealed from the sides and back. It's pure drama, but simple and architectual like so many of Geoffrey Beene's great designs.

Geoffrey Beene early 80s sequin and floral halter gown. Marked size 6 SOLD

Chloe goes PM

Karl Lagerfeld's designs for Chloe in the 70s helped establish this house as a go-to for the glam and jet set. This nude halter gown with bugle bead on crepe also has a deco looking swag belt and a very convenient wrap. It's something we imagine Faye Dunaway wearing down the red carpet at the premiere of Network. It's a contemporary size 4.

HERMES HAUT A COURROIS FOR THE ROAD

I have a wonderful stash of vintage and new Hermes Haut a Courrois bags in my private collection. This ultimate travel bag, originally designed to hold your saddle, is the inspiration for the Birkin. It is now also made in smaller every day sizes, but this 55 cm nautral leather bag from 1979 (the blind stamp is a bit faint) is a yummy natural leather with a gorgeous patina. Vintage Haut a Courrois bags are praised by collectors and always in demand.
