SLEEVES OF WINTER

In 1998 Alber Elbaz started working at the house of Yves Saint Laurent. At the time Monsieur Saint Laurent was thinking retirement and so Elbaz was being groomed to be the future head designer. He started working on ready-to-wear and created collections which were undoubtely YSL. He designed for a strong contemporary woman, and in his own words a woman who desires traditions with a twist, who thinks big and lives fast. And so came the chiffon shirts, the elongated cashmere coats and sexy tops with oversized cowl necks. A YSL woman is a woman always in vogue and  even though Tom Ford dismissed Elbaz after the brand was purchased by the Gucci Group in 2000, there was no forgetting Elbaz's work at his short stay at YSL. This cashmere coat with fox fur sleeves comes from the Fall collection of 1999. It is an extremely beautiful piece in perfect condition and a very important piece in the history of a an iconic house which is again making headlines with Hedi Slimane showing his first collection for women at the now renamed Saint Laurent Paris on October 1st.
