TIRED OF WORKING OUT?

There is a trend in Los Angeles these days of women wearing workout outfits with no intention to actually go to the gym. Working out is a must if you live in LA, or at least you have to have a gym membership or at the very least be very eloquent about the best pilates or yoga  classes. Unfortunately it is the fear of being judged that motivates such behavior and outfits. If you really have to succumb to dressing as if you are heading for a workout, Byron Lars has the best answer for you. You can feel comfortable, sexy and let everyone know you are in a couture state of mind as you head for the gym.. or not.
-Eri

Byron Lars two tone sport mini dress in cotton, c.1990's. Marked size 8. Will fit a modern 4 to 6.

THE SUPREME DIVA

Diana Ross is everything to me.  As a boy growing up in our mutual hometown of Detroit, I was a fervent fan from an early age. When I was seven, I  implored my parents to go to Kentucky Fried Chicken five nights in a row, so we could collect box tops that went go towards the 4 album set of Diana Ross and Supremes Farewell concert! I’ve seen her live about 25 times, and in each show I am mesmerized by style, chicness and presence.  Happy Birthday Miss Ross!
-Christos

And to celebrate Diana Ross's glamourous style here are three Sant'Angelo pieces as spectacular as the Diva herself.

IT WAS THE BEST OF TIMES

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.
-Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

It was the BEST of times last night as we feted our incredible vintage Moschino collection at Decades with aRose McGowan, Paz de la Huerta, Erica Pelosini, Louis Leeman, Janie Bryant, Mena Suvari, Perrey Reeves, Liza Mae Carlin, original vintage Moschino owner owner Lynda Yost, Jennifer Tilly, Aimee Song, Jeff Snyder, Natalia Bonifacci, and hundreds others who love the FUN in fashion and the contradictions of original Franco Moschino.  Who knew a suit that means business could be so fun?  Charles Dickens wrote elegantly of the high and lows of life and Franco Moschino manipulated the yin and yang in his own spectacular way on the runways of life.

MOSCHINO MADNESS CHEZ DECADES

Decades will celebrate the launch of a rare definitive collection of vintage Franco Moschino, kicking off with an event at the iconic vintage boutique on Thursday, March 20th, the same day the collection will also launch online for purchase: www.decadesinc.com/MOSCHINO. This amazing collection of over two hundred pieces was acquired by Decades from Lynda Yost; an avid collector of the Italian fashion label for nearly forty years.

With the reinvigoration of Moschino by its new designer, Jeremy Scott, this collection is perfectly timed to capture the attention of those who embrace having fun with fashion. Katy Perry and Rihanna have already been spotted wearing Scott's current Moschino designs, bringing a new interest in the brand that has always been known for its irony and amusement (Scott's new designs include outfits inspired by McDonalds, worn recently by Perry).

Lynda Yost describes, "As a business executive, I especially liked some of the more subtle witticisms of Franco Moschino. Here are a few of the "slogans" that he put on his buttons (see below), in embroidery on the garments, or right on to buttons. I wore navy blue business suits with little pearl buttons, for example, but each pearl button had a smiley face on it. Another navy blue suit had buttons that were shaped like flowers and in multi-colors. Another suit had a saying on the buttons of "You Can't Judge a Girl By Her Clothes". Nobody ever noticed, but I had my private joke with me all day."
  • "Waiter there is a fly in my soup" – and then the buttons were all shaped like little flies
  • "Better a Happy Hippie than a Yukky Yuppie"
  • "Peace Please"
  • "In Love We Trust"
  • "No Guns, Just Roses"
  • "Opposites Must Coexist"
  • "The Future is Now"
  • "Save Nature"

Price points of the pieces range from about $85 for an original key chain, up to $2,200 for an iconic leather moto jacket. Key pieces in the collection include the following:
  • Moschino three piece skirt suit in Roy Lichtenstein printed silk, Spring 1991. SOLD
  • Moschino jersey "you can dress me up!" dress, c.1990's  SOLD
  • Moschino "In love we trust" playing cards skirt suit, c. 1980's  SOLD
  • Moschino "Hello from Napoli" silk top with gondola and lute brooches, c.1990's.  SOLD
  • Moschino crepe viscose jacket in yellow with black and white checkerboard sleeve and "Let's keep Fashion Tidy" buttons, c. 1980's  SOLD
  • Moschino moto leather jacket with gold chain tassels, c. 1990's  SOLD
  • Moschino "We are the Fruit" leather cropped jacket with fruit leather patches, c.1990's  SOLD

LAST OF THE LACROIX

If you are not getting married in Monique Lhuillier, why don't get married in vintage?   What would be more chic than a vintage Christian Lacroix cream taffeta gown from the maestro of later 20th century Parisian  Haute Couture who sadly no longer designs his eponymous brand?

A strapless gown with a massive brooch and tiers of ornate lace that has all the hallmarks of Lacroix's legendary designs that defined French fashion.  There are also elements of traditional Russian folkloric dress and the brooch (which is removable) reminds me of a spider by way of the Byzantine Empire.

Eggshell gowns are not just for brides, so this could be an ideal white-tie gala option for those who get invited to white-tie galas.  You know who you are!

GET LUCKY IN GREEN GALANOS

Although today we should be feeling the luck of the Irish, I am feeling Byzantine looking at this fifty shade of green James Galanos 1960s evening gown with elaborate gilt and pearl drop embellishment throughout the top.  The fabric of the dress is silk chiffon with various stripe shades of green, lurex, and a touch of unexpected magenta that coordinates with the velvet sash.  This may not be a design by Irish createurs Sybil Connolly or Louise Kennedy, but great Greek Mr. Galanos knows that a g green gown will bring on the envy!

DEMURE

The one refreshing thing I viewed during Hollywood's Christmas (AKA The Oscars) was demure seemed to describe so many of the dresses that the stars wore on the red carpet.  It was less about slits up to your ovaries and plunges down to your pupik.   Angelina Jolie was totally covered, as was Camilla Alves (one of my favorites of the evening) except for a bit of nape.  Yes, Lupita showed sternum but the dress wasn't vulgar.  Kate Hudson balanced her boobies while draping her body in sensual Versace that covered most of her assets.  Oscar winner Cate Blanchett wore an Armani Prive that was a variation of a tee shirt gown - albeit one with exquisite hand embroidery.  That's where this Givenchy Haute Couture dress comes in.  Like Cate's, it has short sleeves (these are caped) and it doesn't show much skin but looks positively regal - quite sexy too.  A flattering neckline for so many women, this floral embroidered gown is perfectly lady like and demure without being monotonous.  I have a feeling this was during Julien MacDonald's tenure at Givenchy, but perhaps one of our savvy followers can confirm or correct me.  How do you feel about going demure?

Calling all skinny Goddesses!  Here is a marvelous James Galanos magenta one shoulder gown embroidered with beautiful white crystals that requires that ultimate elite petite chic-ette.  A Goddess is always on trend.  A one-shoulder never goes out of a style.  And it's Mr. Galanos so you know how gorgeously constructed this garment is because Mr. G made things as gorgeous on the inside as the outside.  Vive American Couture!
