It's been far too long since we had a mighty 35 cm black croco Kelly to offer you. This one just was beautifully restored by Hermes and is crocodile not alligator so the skin has the delicious little dimple in it. It's the big size...35 cm, so you can pile your junk in it or hide a baby bump, just the way Grace Kelly did with the Kelly bag many moons ago. If you are in Monte Carlo this summer, DO check out the Grace Kelly exhibit...we will be checking it out in July. KATIE HOLMES IN VINTAGE EMANUEL UNGARO

Let's hear it for the very lovely Katie Holmes looking right-on-trend in a vintage cream organza Emanuel Ungaro cocktail dress bustier dress with a ruched bodice and dramatic sculptured rosette. All the new, trendy designers are doing these early 80s puffy dresses in 2007, but Emanuel did them first, along with Lacroix, and Katie looks wonderful in an original design from Decades while in France!

Mauve Mugler

This is a really, really, really good Thierry Mugler. We love the dusty rose crepe dress with a subtle yet strong gold lame collar and trim. But it's the seams we are mad for...The rounded shoulder with an inverted seam, the asymmetric hip seams and the unusual wrap detail of the skirt to the back with asymmetric snap closure is so quintessentially Mugler, but in a very wearable manner. We've been feeling Mugler for around 9 months now. Of course, everyone else is following us, but we felt it FIRST!

The most un-Mugler Mugler!

There is an shocking photo posted on blogs of the new and naked Thierry Mugler. Apparently he is now going by the name Manfred Mueller and he hardly looks likes like the man behind the innocent-named fragrance phenomenon Angel. Well, around 20 years ago, it was all-Mugler women wanted to wear. Those Joan Crawford meets C3PO suits look nothing like this one shoulder silk dress with an almost child-like abstract paint-effect pattern. There's an optional skinny belt which we didn't photograph with the dress that matched the print. It has almost a 60s hippy print, with a 70s one shoulder, and an 80s length, but designed in the 90s. This makes it VERY DECADES! It is a deadstock sample but in storage one small snag of the fabric is visible with close inspection. Fits our size 4 mannequin quite well.

SUMMER OF 87

Do you remember the summer of 87? If you were running with a very fast Less Than Zero type club, we picture some chic Bev Hills High School student's mom entertaining at her weekend Malibu home wearing this very lovely one shoulder Lanvin lime dress. It's deadstock from 1987. And it just seems perfect for a summer get together in Malibu or maybe Monte Carlo. This dress can take you anywhere and it's very memorable. VALENTINO RED HOT AND HOPEFULLY NOT TOO BLUE

We are receiving a barrage of vintage Valentino requests and this strapless red chiffon gown with ruched bodice might satisfy one of our Valentino fans. It's not very old...likely c 1992, but that's 15 years so we call it vintage. It's marked size 6, but fits our size four "Slim" and is in Valentino's signature hue of red. As we prepare for Valentino's retirement, this classic gown is inevitably a future collectible.

VALENTINO FOR ROME FESTIVITIES?

Excuse our mannequin and her less-than-ample bust line to fill out this more-than-stunning early 80s wool crepe Valentino strapless gown in a blush of pink and mint with an up-to-there center slit. We haven't named our mannequin (any suggestions? SLIM IS THE WINNER FYI), but she's a four and this dress is a six. So will the right blog reader, who happens to be attending Valentino's historic finale Couture show in Rome next month possiby, snatch this one up, please? You need to be around a size six and comfortable with a bit of bust peak-a-boo that will show at the center line. There is something very Jackie O about this gown. It's an ideal addition to your wardrobe and will solve the "What to Wear?" question should you be part of Val's inner circle in Rome next month.

MAINBOUCHER FOR THE MAIN EVENT

Mainboucher means business. His illustrious history and clients are all noted below and he remains a beacon of American fashion who crossed the pond to Paris and was accepted and embraced there, too. Owning a Mainboucher means you are serious about fashion and know your stuff. If you don't know your Mainboucher 411, read this:


Mainbocher (1891-1976) (born Main Rousseau Bocher) was an American couturier who operated fashion houses in Paris and later New York from the 1930s through the 1960s. He is best known for designing Wallis Simpson's wedding dress and trousseau for her 1937 marriage to the former Edward VIII (the Duke of Windsor) which was photographed by Cecil Beaton

Mainbocher was a native of Chicago, where he studied art at the University of Chicago and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. He served in the Army in the first World War and stayed on in Paris after the war, working as a fashion illustrator for Harpers Bazaar and later as a fashion editor for French Vogue.
In 1929, he established his own fashion house, designing expensive, elegant haute couture dresses and gowns for an exclusive clientele, and charging them for the privilege of viewing his collections. He designed much of the Duchess of Windsor's wardrobe, naming a color, Wallis blue, for her, and created the first strapless evening gown.
In 1939 , he relocated his business to New York on 57th Street next to Tiffany's, and continued to design for generations of discerning women of means like Gloria Vanderbilt through the 1960s.
After he achieved fame for dressing some of the world's most famous women, Mainbocher was commissioned to design the costumes for Ethel Merman in the 1950 Broadway musical Call Me Madam. Merman recounts in her memoirs that she took her mother to her first fitting for her costumes. Mainbocher would not permit Merman's mother in the fitting area saying he did not allow outside persons in the areas where he created. When Merman inquired why he would not allow her mother when he allowed another old woman in the room, Mainbocher replied, "But that is my mother."
Recently, Mainbocher and twenty-three other American fashion designers were honored with bronze plaques on New York City's "Fashion Walk of Fame" in the legendary garment district.

Now that you are properly educated on Mainboucher, you might wish to consider this silk matte satin strapless dress in periwinkle and denim-hued blue stripes with a dramatic gathered skirt and bow. The coordinating fitted jacket features two buttons. Fits our size four mannequin, but the bust is generous. The condition is surprisingly good considering its age and rareness. Completely wearable for a fashion aficionado.

NORMA KAMALI LOVES A SEXY BRIDE

Norma Kamali fans meet the bride-to-be. Brides, you know who you are, tried on a dozen dresses at Monique Lhuillier, another dozen at Vera Wang, and still haven't found your winner, well this is it. Make your life easy, go goddess, wear jersey, look sexy, and throw on a strapp-y sandal and call it a day. This is a fabulous white jersey ruched and empire waisted (think an ode to Vionnet) gown with a titillating asymmetric hem. If it's good enough for a bride, trust us, it's good enough for a client looking for a black-tie summer option, too. Fits our size four mannequin nicely, but its jersey and forgiving so we think a size 6 can work her magic in this, too. The label is missing on the Kamali. This things happen, but we weren't going to pass this up because of the label. We know our Kamali and we think you will want to know her, too!

WINONA RYDER IN VINTAGE CHRISTIAN DIOR FROM DECADES

Last night, Winona Ryder attended the AFI tribute to Al Pacino in a vintage Christian Dior black silk satin strapless cocktail dress from the 1950s...from DECADES. We will add another photo soon enough of the dramatic back, but we think Winona looked stunning. We hope you do, too.

This early 70s black chiffon with gold paillette spash overlay styled with spaghetti straps Halston was made for a ballerina and it's a gorgeous gown to dance in since the slight empire waist and spaghetti straps give way to a fuller skirt that has a seam 20 inches from the hem that creates a slight flutter like a prairie skirt. Imagine how gorgeous this would look dancing up a storm...well not dancing ballet, but maybe at a sophisticated dinner dance...does anyone attend dinner dances anymore? I mean, why did we all take Cotillion if we can't dance?

These sell super fast, so email or better yet call us on 323 655 0223 to purchase this very chic 35 cm authentic HERMES Togo leather Birkin in the iconic orange "Potiron" color with palladium hardware from 2003. It was just cleaned by Hermes in Beverly Hills and is in very very very good condition...sooo gently used. It no longer has it's box, but comes with the sleeper bag. You know that these are worth a ridiculous fortune in the resale market, just check out Ebay and you will folk shelving out $14,000 for this bag, but we are happy to sell this one for more-or-less the same price it would cost at Hermes with its tax.

JUNE WEDDING 11TH HOUR DRESS ALERT!

Many of the Decades blog readers are jetting around the planet attending weddings this month. Some of our readers are certainly the bride-to-be, and a smaller percentage of those readers are bride-to-be-without a DRESS! Frankly, wedding dresses can be a real bummer and a tremendously emotional purchase that the bride might wear 5 hours in her lifetime. We suggest this Gianni Versace 90s corseted gown as an option. It's white-ish, so it fits in with the virginal bride theme, but it's glam and sexy and totally appropriate to wear on the red carpet to a premiere (we like to think that most of our blog readers are actresses likely to get nominated for an Oscar next February-- just a bit optimistic about the artistic talents of all our readers!). Now, if you are not a bride-to-be or your are looking to be a bride or just want to look hot, this is a dress for you, too. White and cream have become very popular as an evening gown color option...it's not just for brides anymore. The silk satin corset details are really cool on this dress, but it's a wee bit tight on our size 4 mannequin, so we need a petite 4 to take this one home. Bride or not, this one's a winner.
