WHAT A WAIST

Azzedine Alaia makes a woman look like a woman. Looking at the graphite grey wool suit from the 1980s below, one can only imagine how empowered and seductive the original wearer looked in this shapely update of a 1940s style skirt suit. With the amazing influence of Gilbert Adrian's legendary designs for Joan Crawford fused with a real Blade Runner sensibility, this suit sustains a level of modernity and dissipates any anachronistic characteristics of other 80s "power suits" that ultimately are too "then" and not enough "now." If you are one to go ballistic for Roland Mouret's current aesthetic, we think this original Alaia will remind you of both what you love in today's designs and what you love in the designs of yesteryear.

Azzedine Alaia grey graphite fitted skirt suit, c. 1980s. Marked size 38, modern 2 to narrow 4. SOLD
