Strapless in Midnight

This midnight blue strapless gown comes from the London based couturier Victor Edelstein. As some of you may remember, he was one of Lady Diana's favorite designers, and she was often photographed in his gowns. The first picture in the post is the most famous photo of an Edelstein gown. It was taken while Lady Diana and John Travolta danced together while attending a gala at the White House in 1984. The gown she wore that night later sold at auction for just under a quarter of a million dollars. The sophisticated style with a hint of glamour that defines an Edelstein gown make his pieces timeless. This specific gown is constructed of a silk lace that has been covered with midnight blue silk ribbon in a very erratic pattern. The gown hits the ankle and has a front slit that comes up to the knee. The top has built in boning to keep the shape and is reminiscent of a bustier.
