Legendary costume designer Theadora Van Runkle passed away on Friday, the 4th. She was raised in Beverly Hills (like me) and she received an Oscar nomination for the first film she costumed, "Bonnie and Clyde" in 1967. Mini skirts may have been the rage that year, but her 1930s designs dropped the hemlines on runways around the world. She worked with Faye Dunaway often, "The Thomas Crown Affair" in 1968. Her work is so influential in American fashion and I am certain every season there is a designer somewhere with an image an actress from a Van Runkle-designed film on his/her inspiration board. Thanks for the memories.
