MAKE A STATEMENT

This fall may very well be the season of the sculptural jacket. Everywhere we look we are seeing bold shoulders, architectural collars, and textured fabrics on statement jackets that can cost well into five figures. If the ten thousand dollar jacket makes a statement in 2009, think about what kind of statement the vintage YSL jacket below makes! First of all, it immediately sets you apart from the five-figure-fashion victims because you have discovered the original inspiration of the statement jacket (well it wasn't just YSL who was doing sculptured jackets in the 80s...Mugler and Montana and certainly Alaia have had their way with Blade Runner proportion shoulder jackets evocative of Gilbert Adrian's styles in the 1940s) by none other than one of the greatest designers of the 20th Century, the incomparable Yves Saint Laurent. The jacket is a wool faille cropped shape with a collar and cuff in horizontal gold lurex stripes, all trimmed in grosgrain. We suggest you wear this with very skinny jeans or pants and a jersey tank top. It is perfect for fall and straight into the holiday season. Believe it or not, the holidays are around the corner! However, in the meanwhile, enjoy this jacket that's a little bit rock 'n roll, a little Joan Crawford, and a whole lot of YSL. Make a statement in the chicest way possible.
