WTF WITH DOWNTON ABBEY

We keep picking up 1920s pieces since a Deco trend has certainly been evidenced on the runways and Downton Abbey is moving into the 1920s next season, also.  Flapper dresses are always divine, but sometimes a "remnant" from the past can pay homage to the Roaring 20s without going head-to-toe.  Certainly many of the authentic 1920s pieces were augmented over the nearly one hundred years since they were created.  I can't for certain guarantee what this wrap blouse looked like this its original configuration.  Perhaps it was part of a dress?  Regardless, I am a firm believer in eccentric editions to a wardrobe and this could be worn with double tape a la J Lo to cover your boobies.  Alternatively, this could be great worn with a ribbed tank and a pair of jeans for a casual nonchalant look.  I depend on those weird (often impulsive) purchases in my closet because when I really feel I have nothing cool or fresh to wear, it's those "WTF" pieces that suddenly inspire me and will inspire you, too.  As a matter of fact, I bought a red velvet waist length cape today from the 1960s.  WTF?  Wait till you see how it will inspire some wacky ensemble during fashion week!

WHEN YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR

Do you ever have those moments in your closet when you think you have nothing to wear?  Of course this is a rhetorical question because when you are a Decades shopper, you have built up a wardrobe of staples and eccentricities; flashy ensembles and clothes to wear in an audience with the Pope; 11th hour black tie gowns and chic day looks.  We keep you dressed 24-7.  With runways filled with 1920s influences as well as Downton Abbey references, I love the idea of just throwing on a 1920s robe when you just don't know what to wear.  This apricot burnout velvet robe with scallop cuffs on the sleeve and satin trim, it the perfect answer when you just can't make a decision.  It will work over a tank and jeans or shorts and a shell.  Throw it over a drop waist dress for a more retro look.  Entertain at home with the robe and a slip for the perfect pajama party look.  As a garment that is nearly 100 years old, there are some stresses in the fabric, but that can be expected when you are wearing history and going to be history in the making, too.

TINSELTOWN BEAUTIES

Nacho Figueras and his wife Delfina Blaquier

The Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic 2011 event took part today in Los Angeles. The place was packed with the most well-dressed Los Angelenos. Not only was this the place to be for the fashion crowd, but it helped a good cause as well; it helped raise money for California State Parks. The captain of the Black Watch polo team, Nacho Figueras was there hoping to bring more attention to the sport.
As for the fashion, polo was a very popular sport in the 20's and 30's so everyone's outfit was very inspired by that decade.

Here in this photo is our very own Cameron Silver with two of the most beautiful ladies in attendance, Delfina Blaquier, Fugueras wife, and Vanessa Kay, the president of Veuve Cliquot.
Both ladies are in vintage dresses, Delfina is wearing a gem from the 20's from Decades, and Vanessa is wearing an authentic flapper dress from NY Vintage.
As for Cameron, he likes to mix modern with vintage; McQueen jacket, Jay Kos vest, Gucci boots and Hermes ascot, belt and pants.

Santa Anna

Here in southern California we have been blessed with a late Christmas gift...Santa Anna Winds. They originate inland and sweep through the deserts bringing all us lucky Angelinos gusts of warm air to thaw our frozen spray-tanned little bodies.

This fortunate event made me long for summer, and all that comes with it (mostly lying by the pool and sucking down low-carb margaritas). I even went out and purchased a new pair of white sunglasses from my favorite vintage sunglass shop Hotel De Ville.

Now I bring you one of my favorite summer party dresses: an Anonymous baby pink 20's chiffon number with silver "sequin" firework pattern. By "sequin" I mean the thin strips of silver metal that have been attached by hand all over the dress. I'm not sure how long it took to individually fold and wrap each strip to create the amazing pattern but it looks like it took while! There is a darker pink chiffon slip dress that adds volume to the skirt and keeps all your naughty bits hidden from view.

To get you in the mood, I've added a lovely anthem from last summer, Katy Perrys "Firework." Press play and be sure to check out the detailed picture of the "sequin" just above the video; it is truly something special.

NOW THAT WHAT I CALL VINTAGE

Decades is a vintage store, but although we are known for more mid-century styles, we can still rock a little Deco-chic, too. Take this divine woven "lame" kimono. We've shows it with a wide YSL bronze snake skin belt, but how fun would this be for entertaining at home or apres plage on your yacht in the Greek Isles. Or the real fashion forward, can suggest a little Cameron Diaz at the 74th Oscars when she surprised the fashion flock in an Emanuel Ungaro kimono...this can be worn on the red carpet as long as the wearer has the confidence. We might suggest lining the kimono in black satin since vintage lame fabrics end to be a bit itchy. Regardless, just surrender to these sleeves...they took our breath away!
