WHO DOESN'T WANT TO BE A CHIC YOUNG PARISIENNE

Christian Dior, Pierre Balmain, and Jacques Fath are credited with saving French Haute Couture following the end of World War Two.  Fath presented his first collection in 1937 and never shuttered his house during the war (although he did spend a brief spell as a prisoner in 1940).  His clients during the war were Germans, black marketers, and the ultra wealthy collaborators.  Miraculously his reputation wasn't tarnished and he became an international brand following the war.  In 1945, Diana Vreeland famously asked an assistant to bring back a fabric rose from Paris to prove that French Couture had survived the war.  The Couture and Fath survived.

This LBD from 1949 epitomizes "the chic young Parisienne" which became the hallmark style of Fath's work.  Perhaps not as innovative as Dior, Fath did know how to highlight a client's curves with fitted waists and molded busts.  Plus, he was apparently a real charmer and he and his beard/wife, the former model and Fath muse, Genevieve Boucher de la Bruyere, threw fabulous parties.

I will personally guarantee that this dress will make you chic, perhaps young, and was made in Paris.

JENNIFER MORRISON IS A FASHION WARRIOR!

Doesn't my gorgeous friend, the actress Jennifer Morrison, look stunning at the premiere of her much-heralded new movie WARRIOR? She's in Jacques Fath from 1954.
I think we will be seeing a lot of Jen on the red carpet during award season since this film has so much buzz! Can't wait to see it. Comes out Friday!

SO AUDREY BUT NOT GIVENCHY

It was 1954, it was in L'officiel and it is officially fabulous still today. It seemed straight out of Audrey's closet, but it isn't Givenchy. Rather it was and is Jacques Fath Haute Couture and it's here at Decades. An oyster hued silk satin ultimate cocktail dress with lavish embroidery of bronze and gold, it is a dress worthy of Audrey -- yesterday and today. We rather love the idea of Natalie Portman wearing this manifestation of vintage Parisian Haute Couture as she reminds us of Audrey. Audrey of yesterday or Audrey of today, have faith in the sublime Jacques Fath.

YOU GOTTA HAVE FATH

Need to make an entrance? Want to make an unforgettable exit, too? Then leave it to Jacques Fath. Well not the Jacques Fath, as this dress is from the late 80s revival of the House and Monsieur Fath was on to bigger and better things at that point; but we can't neglect the drama of this dramatic strapless silk gown with folded bodice in a color blocked puce and turquoise. Not for the faint of heart or those who don't dig a rainbow connection. Big ball gowns like these don't come around often in such a dramatic color variation, so the lucky woman who chooses this gown will be remembered for years to come...are you ready to be a legend?

Jacques Fath Puce Lime and Turquoise Silk Satin Strapless Ball Gown. Marked size 38, fits a contemporary size 4 to 6. SOLD

JACQUES FATH GODDESS

Jacques Fath is not known for one shoulder color blocked Goddess gowns. Let's make that perfect clear. But in the early 1990s the label was relaunched (it's actually being re-launched again, as we type), and in addition to more glamorous 40s style suiting, this gown appeared. So, although it bares the Jacques Fath label, the style is more 70s by way of 90s glam.
