KATE THE GREAT

No matter what she wears, she captivates. She is not driven by trends, she creates them. The skinny jeans, the boho chic tops, the flat boots, the vests, the denim cut offs, and the famous retro sequin dresses, Kate Moss has inspired and continues to do so. It is her cool attitude and innate style that make her different and definitely a style authority. She has inspired many artists and photographers as well and that is what Christie's is celebrating, a collection of art inspired by Kate Moss which goes on live auction on September 25th. With photographs from Craig McDean,  Chris Levine and Allen Jones, Kate Moss has been captured by many artist creating striking images. Like the Asher Penn photographs of Kate Moss that are featured in our latest windows at Decades created by the amazing Jeff Snyder and Jarred Cairns. The art pieces come to us from Cameron Silver's personal archive and they will be on display at Decades for a limited time. Cameron too is a Moss fan and inspired by her coolness
Kate Moss inspires us at Decades everyday and with that feeling we put together a collection of pieces that Kate would wear. You can shop it here on our website. Some of the pieces featured on our window are Tom Ford for Gucci sequin dress, Nina Ricci powder blue fur, vintage leopard fur, Stella McCartney pant suit and Judith Leiber Swarovski evening bag and more.
Stop by to check out the windows and click here to own something that would make you look as cool as Kate!

LAST CALL TO SHOP THE LYN REVSON COLLECTION

Last December, we launched one of our most extensive, not to mention exclusive, curated collections ever: the spectacular style treasures of Lyn Revson, a NYC 1970s fashion fixture who was also the muse of legendary American designer, Norman Norell.

Hand-selected by Cameron Silver, the collection includes luxurious vintage clothing, accessories and home decor courtesy of such noted houses as Chanel, Christian Dior, Nina Ricci and Yves Saint Laurent, not to mention must-haves from Galanos, Norman Norell, and Kazuko plus an amazing selection of seminal Hermès handbags.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end and as such, Lyn Revson's special treasure trove of gorgeous goods will be leaving us in just a few days. To get final access to one of the world's most exquisite closets, click HERE. Oh, and we're offering a 20% discount on the Revson pieces during this last call. DAY AND NIGHT

The photo above is where we would like to be tonight and the photo below is what we would like to wear at dinner! This beautiful Nina Ricci dress captures all the romance and feminine feeling that Madame Ricci added to all her collections. This sleeveless knit in ecru with khaki and yellow stripes, is just the most romantic light dress we have seen in a while. The waist is highlighted by a belt decorated with pompoms. From the colors, the length, the round neckline and its own fringed shawl, it is the most romantic dress to take with you when you go away on a vacation; And because Nina Ricci was Italian we decided this dress should be taken to Italy on vacation, more specifically Capri. You can take a boat ride on the Amalfi coast during the day and dine al fresco under lemon trees wrapped in your very own Nina Ricci.

Inauguration Day in Blue

It appears that electric blue is the color of the moment. But it isn't anything new as indicated by the two vintage pieces below. The Nina Ricci electric blue cuff set in pewter metal is a great runway design from the early 1980s and it puts the "fantasy" in Bijoux Fantasie. The Anonymous bias cut late 1930s gown features a stunning pattern of electric blue pailettes on stretch net. The gown may be around 80 years old, but it looks shockingly modern from the sexy back to body skimming silhouette. If you are going to one of the exciting Obama Inauguration Balls in Washington D.C., the combo of the 1930s gown and Ricci bracelet is ideal as you will have the blue covered in Red, White, and Blue!

We're seeing SPOTS!

Cruella de Vil is would kill a hundred and one puppies for these sumptuous spotted ensembles! One gown and one dress, both of them black and riddled with white spots, just the way we like it. The first piece is a Nina Ricci gown constructed of black silk jacquard with black polka dots woven into the fabric. The same fabric is used to accent the waist and top of the bust, but it has an added white polka dot print over the black woven dot. The back of the gown is has a bow covering the zipper, which is made of the same white polka dot material. The second piece is a silk long sleeve Ungaro dress. The dress is constructed from a black material with a white polka dot print, that has been bunched to the left side of the dress and tied off with a knot. Both of these looks make a statement, but because of the excellent construction, they make an "elegant" statement. Save a puppy, buy these pieces!

IT'S IN THE AIR

Do you remember the commercial for the Nina Ricci parfum L'Air du Temps? It was the late late 1970s or early 1980s. We vaguely recall the medley of the song. Ah, yet another nostalgic moment chez Decades. Back to focus. We bring up the "It's in the Air" theme because the Nina Ricci fog-blue chiffon evening dress below reminds us of the commercial. The simple spaghetti straps attach to a lovely draped bust line with a wide, fitted waist band. The skirt of the dress is a multi layered chiffon that moves beautifully and begs for a night of dancing. Why the dress almost feels like it's floating on air. Nina Ricci has always been a House of romantic fashion and certainly this is a dress that warrants a little romance.

NINA RICCI IS NOT JUST FOR REESE

Last year, Reese Witherspoon more-or-less exclusively wore Nina Ricci for her public appearances. Well, we are here to say that Nina Ricci is not her exclusive domain anymore! We are happy to share with you this dramatique early 80s Nina Ricci taffeta concoction with velveteen dots and motif-de-jeur: the beloved over-sized bow. We are also thrilled to offer you a gown that is diplomatically sized, yet sexy (it will fit a modern size 8 to 10).

But the drama doesn't stop there, as the strapless gown billows from the waist to the knee, and then returns to a more natural skirt shape. It's a pretty fantastic and elaborately constructed gown that requires a lot of confidence. We feel most Decades shoppers have confidence in spades, so we know our clients can handle the drama with panache!

Two of This Year's Serious Oscars Contenders: Nina Ricci Haute Couture and Valentino

The gloom hanging over Los Angeles this week has less to do with the weather and more to do with the ongoing writers' strike, which has already claimed as a victim the Golden Globes--and more than a few of the beautiful gowns intended to grace the red carpet. Despite the impasse, we're feeling optimistic about the prospects for the Academy Awards. Hollywood--and the world--could use a dash of glamour and an evening of celebration.

Decades is gearing up for the festivities with two perennial Oscars favorites (designers, not actresses). The first is Nina Ricci Haute Couture from the late 1970s, a spectacular creation in black appliquéd wild silk with a creme guipure skirt that's only appropriate for an Oscar-caliber event. The boned bodice fastens over one shoulder with a bow and a white organza rose, while the stiffened skirt panels are adorned with vertical bands of appliquéd black and silver beaded spring flowers.

Nina Ricci Haute Couture Ball Gown in Black Wild Silk and Creme Guipure, Adorned with Appliqued Silver Flowerheads in Crystal Beading, c. late 1970s. 74cm at the waist, 91-96cm at the bust.

The next dress, by Valentino, features a similar silhouette with less ornamentation and more accessible fabrication (velvet and satin). The less voluminous design and cleaner panels suit a woman who wishes for elegant simplicty. We also love the contrast between the floor-length bustle and the knee-grazing hem of the dress--what a way to show off a jeweled heel!

Valentino Boutique Spectacular One-Shoulder Black Velvet & Satin Panel Gown with Bow at the Shoulder, c. 1970s. Fits a contemporary size 4 to 6. (Please be aware that the velvet skirt portion features velvet that has impressions with age. The dress has been expertly cleaned, but the velvet is not entirely smooth). SOLD
