IT WAS THE BEST OF TIMES

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.
-Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

It was the BEST of times last night as we feted our incredible vintage Moschino collection at Decades with aRose McGowan, Paz de la Huerta, Erica Pelosini, Louis Leeman, Janie Bryant, Mena Suvari, Perrey Reeves, Liza Mae Carlin, original vintage Moschino owner owner Lynda Yost, Jennifer Tilly, Aimee Song, Jeff Snyder, Natalia Bonifacci, and hundreds others who love the FUN in fashion and the contradictions of original Franco Moschino.  Who knew a suit that means business could be so fun?  Charles Dickens wrote elegantly of the high and lows of life and Franco Moschino manipulated the yin and yang in his own spectacular way on the runways of life.

All Moschino pieces, as seen on these photos, available for purchase at

ONE OF A KIND OR ONE OF ITS KIND

Join Cameron Silver to explore fashion's decades and decades of fashion in this year's New York Fashion conference which will focus on "One of a Kind" iconic individiuals and institutions whose contributions have played critical roles in defining modern fashion. Artisantry, makers and materials that are as extraordinary as those who create from them objects of compelling and enduring beauty, from gemstones to rare metals to textiles. Central to the questions of what makes something "one of a kind" is the paradox embodied by vintage; Is a garment one of a kind or one of its kind? And how does standing the test of time create the iconic?

For tickets click here and enter promo code silver or call: 646.485.1952

The conference presents a unique opportunity to meet authorities from the fashion world and if you have not yet purchased Decades; A Century of Fashion by Cameron Silver , the books will be available at the conference as well as a chance for a personal book signing.

HOME SWEET HOME

While Cameron is off on his phenomenal book tour, I am taking the Decades trunk show on the road to my hometown of Detroit.

I love Motown!  It truly is a beautiful city, with amazing food, architecture and importantly, fashion.
Some of our biggest names in fashion—Diana Ross, Veronica Webb and John Varvatos-to name a few are native Detroiters.
And I’m going to get my fashion fix while in the Motor City.
On Thursday October 25th, I will be attending Fashion Across the Decades-a fashion show fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.  Decades gowns will be featured in the presentation.  For more info go to charityfashionshow.net
And then on Friday October 26th, and Saturday October 27th, the Decades trunk show opens in Grosse Pointe Farms at the Hill restaurant on Kercheval Avenue .  I’ve carefully curated the selection, and cannot wait to see my hometown reaction and hope you can make it.
Side note: does anyone have an in with Mother Nature?! I land on Wednesday.  76 degrees. Sunday I’m going to the World Series (Go Tigers!) and it’s going to be a blustery 35.
Packing is going to be a real situation.

SALE @ CERRE

If you are still wondering where to get the perfect motorcycle leather jacket like the one worn by Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, look no further. Cerre, the LA based luxury brand launched seven years ago by former models Flavie and Clayton Webster. The pieces are made proudly in Los Angeles in their Melrose atelier. The simplicity of the pieces and the superb craftsmanship, shows the high standard that the designers have in making their pieces and staying true to their minimal aesthetic. Cerre is famous in LA for great quality clothes that work anywhere. My personal favorite: their leather pieces. The Webster's have definitely brought a Parisian chicness to LA. Don't miss out on this opportunity to check out their Sale event. Cameron Silver and Christos Garkinos have always been supportive of LA fashion and the talented designers that have emerged from the city of angeles. They are both hosting a champagne reception at the Cerre boutique next week to celebrate LA fashion and above all, stylish, well made clothes to wear all year around. See below for more info.

YOU BETTER START PLANNING YOUR OUTFITS!

There is a lot going on this fall so start planning your outfits and shop Decades!  In September, the wonderful new documentary VERSAILLES '73 will premiere and you know that the pressure is on to be dressed to the Nines when the film comes to your local cinema.  The Atlanta premiere is on 4 September, followed by NYC.  I am so excited to be the narrator of this wonderful project.  But your sartorial demands have only just begun as in October I am going on a world book tour to promote my Bloomsbury release, DECADES: A CENTURY OF FASHION.  I know the best dressed guests on the planet will be attending the book signings so put on your best vintage or soon-to-be-vintage and let's talk fashion.  Honestly, I can't wait to introduce both the movie and book to fashion lovers around the world. I am working on my outfits already.  If you need any styling tips, just email your friends at Decades.  As Vidal Sassoon famously said, "If you don't look good, we don't look good."

LOOKING GOOD, GOOD LOOKING!

Well, well, well . . . guess who got snapped on the carpet at the Valentino party?

As we all know, prints are H.U.G.E. for Spring 2012 and while this trend seems an easy mark for the ladies (Floral printed frocks, anyone? And speaking of Mary Katranzou . . .), Gents can pick patterns too. However, instead of going head-to-toe with a rose printed three-piece, you might want to keep it simple and chic with a bright printed tie or other accessory against casual and neutral pieces. See Cameron Silver's gold-winning ensemble above for outfit inspo. Case in print, I mean, point.

CHARITABLE IN STYLE

Co-Owner of Decades Christos Garkinos in McQueen with Rachel Zoe in vintage Versace from Decades

Hello loyal Decades blog followers. I’m so excited to file my first-ever blog post about an event that was in the words of the honoree…amazeballs!

I was a host at the event last night honoring one of Decades’ favorite gals-Rachel Zoe. She was chosen to receive the inaugural visionary award by the LA Gay and Lesbian Center benefitting the Homeless Youth Services.

Held at the gorgeous Sunset Tower in Los Angeles, Rachel was bestowed her award by close friend Anne Hathaway.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house after their speeches , which were accompanied by inspirational words from Aaron Sorkin (congrats on today’s Oscar nomination) and Kelly Osbourne.

We raised hundreds of thousands for the charity. And looked tres chic while doing so!

Rachel wore a vintage early ‘90’s Versace (Gianni era) velvet gown with gold buttons and silk details from Decades. She looked gorg. And gave a sweet shout out to Decades from the stage.

Also from Decades, Anne wore a vintage Dior gown with white lace trim from the early ‘90’s from the era of Gianfranco Ferre.

And lastly, Ashley Madeckwe, star of my favorite television show Revenge (is anyone else obsessed with it like me?!), shone in a modern Alaia flounce dress from Decades.

And, well, moi,---McQueen head to toe, except for my croc bow tie from Teddy Tinson—Cameron turned me on to his line, and my collection of his ties has grown exponentially.

There ya have it. My first post of hopefully many to come. Cameron would you come back from Paris already!

-Christos

LYN REVSON: AN AMERICAN CLASSIC

Lyn Revson's World of Style - published 1977

Lyn with her sons Jeffrey and Steven

Lyn wearing a Norell winter coat

Lyn in a black Galanos gown

Lyn in a black crepe dress by Galanos

Lyn in Norell bugle-beaded pants

Lyn in a Galanos vanilla colored skirt with coat to match

We are very excited to announce that the Lyn Revson Collection curated by Decades will be available online at decadestwo1.com on Monday, december 12 as well as in the store on Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles. Many splendid Hermes pieces, Galanos, Courreges, Beene, YSL, Norell, Dior, Chanel, Helene Arpels and Cartier to name a few. Shop on Monday online and stop by the store to have a chance to own a piece (or many) from this American icon collection.

"Lyn Revson was married to the founder of Revlon and became a fashion icon in her own right. She was a muse to the great American designer Norman Norell and had a wonderful opportunity to collaborate on a bag with Hermes. She put a clock on the bag so she could always tell the time and in 1996, Hermes began selling the bag in their stores. Today, they are nearly impossible to find.
She represented the way a certain group of people were able to live in New York, that very international jet-set life and she was very admired for her style as a public figure. As such, she was also one of the first women to brand the lifestyle she lived through the book she wrote in the 1970's, Lyn Revson's World of Style: How to Join It and Live It. She lived an elegant life in all aspects of her life. It really inspires me." - Cameron Silver

LADIES OF THE GALA

We couldn't help but post this photo of one of our darling and stunning friends of Decades, Sutton Stracke at the MOCA gala a couple of weeks ago. Sutton is wearing vintage Oscar de la Renta that we posted here and the fabulous Judy Chang in Miriam Haskell for Decades jewels. It is nice to be a patron of the arts but to look good doing it - it's an art form in itself!
