AMERICAN HUSTLE AND THE DECADE OF SENSUALITY

Halston and Gucci make a big appearance in American Hustle the much anticipated film directed by David O. Russell starring Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Amy Adams. The film is set in 1978 and even though some outfits scream seventies fashion, the clothes are central in telling the story. We at Decades have always celebrated the seventies as the sexiest of all decades and Hollywood is doing too with this great movie. To give you a taste of the actual seventies here are some vintage Halston and Azzaro pieces fit for Sydney Prosser. And click here to shop all new arrivals.

KATE THE GREAT

No matter what she wears, she captivates. She is not driven by trends, she creates them. The skinny jeans, the boho chic tops, the flat boots, the vests, the denim cut offs, and the famous retro sequin dresses, Kate Moss has inspired and continues to do so. It is her cool attitude and innate style that make her different and definitely a style authority. She has inspired many artists and photographers as well and that is what Christie's is celebrating, a collection of art inspired by Kate Moss which goes on live auction on September 25th. With photographs from Craig McDean,  Chris Levine and Allen Jones, Kate Moss has been captured by many artist creating striking images. Like the Asher Penn photographs of Kate Moss that are featured in our latest windows at Decades created by the amazing Jeff Snyder and Jarred Cairns. The art pieces come to us from Cameron Silver's personal archive and they will be on display at Decades for a limited time. Cameron too is a Moss fan and inspired by her coolness
Kate Moss inspires us at Decades everyday and with that feeling we put together a collection of pieces that Kate would wear. You can shop it here on our website. Some of the pieces featured on our window are Tom Ford for Gucci sequin dress, Nina Ricci powder blue fur, vintage leopard fur, Stella McCartney pant suit and Judith Leiber Swarovski evening bag and more.
Stop by to check out the windows and click here to own something that would make you look as cool as Kate!

LIQUID ASSETS

With the DOW plunging, yet the price of gold hitting $1,723.40 in after-hour trading, might I suggest you put your money on what may be your most tangible asset: your body dripping in liquid gold by Loris Azzaro!

I have had a long love affair with Azzaro. This twisted gold lurex strapless empire pleated dress is a very iconic style Azzaro made famous (we have sold this style previously in black crepe). I love the flashy gold because it is just the right side of tacky. It may seem odd for me to refer to something at Decades as being "tacky" but it is a true compliment when I call something the right side of tacky! Why it is almost the highest compliment I can give something or someone, actually.
With a bit of tact and with a little tacky, I remain.

DECADES HEARTS LORIS AZZARO

It's true. Decades HEARTS Loris Azzaro. I have always had a special affinity for this Parisian house of glamour that echoes the disco charge of Halston's American clothing (but in a French manner). A decade ago we sold Nicole Kidman the great vintage Loris Azzaro white fringe dress she wore to the New York City premiere of Moulin Rouge. Azzaro was not a very familiar brand to fashion lovers at that time, but the power of Nicole Kidman in a vintage Azzaro helped rekindle interest in the House of Azzaro and it has thus experienced a renaissance.
My dear friend Vanessa Seward has been an amazing Creative Director of Azzaro and successfully transferred and updated the historical codes of the brand and made them totally 21st Century, yet still with a respect for the past. Vanessa worked for Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel who is a magnificent manipulator of Coco Chanel's codes. That training shows why Vanessa is so good at Azzaro. Some of you may know I was the Creative Consultant at Azzaro with Vanessa for many years and we had a wonderful time and great success updating the brand and bringing amazing new clients and celebs to Azzaro.

So enough time reflecting! Let's get back to the incredible vintage design of Mr. Loris Azzaro and this signature dress with top of woven blue and silver Lurex chains applied in a scallop pattern. This was a technique that Mr. Azzaro made very famous. From the top of the shoulders to the elbow are long strands of the metal chains that attach to a ring of woven Lurex at the elbow. From there the metal chains continue down to a ring of the same Lurex fabric at the cuff. The cuff is finished with the same scallop affect as the top.
The skirt portion is an extremely light-weight, blue viscose jersey. Even with the chain and Lurex, this dress is very light and easy to move in. There are great historical photos of 1970s socials "partying" in similar vintage Azzaro dresses. Tina Turner moves better than anyone and often did so in Loris Azzaro. You may not be able to shimmy or follow the beat like the legendary Tina Turner, but I have a feeling if you put this dress on you may suddenly have rhythm! Let's Dance!

Multi Media-Naire

A classic and collectible Loris Azzaro gown just sauntered into Decades. This stunning gown is an olive green jersey with an iridescent bronze sheen. The synthetic jersey is actually more expensive than silk jersey and was chosen over silk because the weight of the artisanal appliqué requires a stronger and thicker fabric. The collar and cuffs are encrusted in Loris Azzaro's signature mixed media metallic technique. It includes stamped metal flowers, semi-precious cut stones, gilt plastic disks, and glass beads. If that's not enough, the gown comes with a substantial full length hooded cape (very dramatic).

LORIS AZZARO AND WHITE JERSEY

Loris Azzaro always used white jersey for dramatic evening dresses. Think of Nicole Kidman at the New York City premiere pf Moulin Rouge in her famous white fringe Azzaro from Decades. Or, Diane Lane at the Oscars in 2004 in the iconic three ring dress which was re-interpreted by current Azzaro Creative Director Vanessa Seward. These white dresses are legendary for their body-consciousness, simplicity of pattern, and dramatic details in the form of cutouts and color - white. This 70s Azzaro dress seems like a classic draped bodice dress in the Goddess form from the front but as the criss-cross bodice begins to reveal the sides are open and the back features the halters connecting to a horizontal strap that showcases an athletic and ultra sexy design. This could be a cool bride's option for her big day, or, this tea-length (again we are promoting the new practical length for evening) evening dress would be awesome for a star at the BAFTA Awards. Ultimately it's for a woman who has confidence and a body that can handle revealing white jersey. You work out hard and are disciplined, so show off a little in an original Loris Azzaro.

TO THE ILL INFORMED

To the ill-informed, the notion of a khaki paillette and bugle bead sweatshirt seems like a high fashion version of an unfortunate Christmas sweater, but there is nothing unfortunate about this Loris Azzaro ultimate pullover. Re-inventing the "Champion" sweatshirt, but luxe-d up with allover khaki hued paillettes and bugle bead trim, this is a "I-HAVE-NOTHING-TO-WEAR" solution since this can be worn casually with jeans, dressed up with heels, and we say could go black tie with a pair of exquisitely cut tux pants (hello, Givenchy Haute Couture). The sleeves are slightly dolman for a late 70s disco silhouette and we are crazy for the wide ribbing. As proponents of day-to-evening versatility, this sweatshirt has so many uses, don't be surprised if you wear it on the treadmill at Equinox!

Festive Floral

If you are planning a trip down to the Big Easy this February, take a gander below. Unless you plan on going topless & body painted you will need an ensemble for Mardi Gras. May we suggest taking the high, non-trashy road and wear a fantastic purple jersey Azzaro dress. The most alluring part of the dress is its metallic-beaded-floral collar & strap design that trails between the cleavage and down the front of the dress, ending in a diamond shape just below the bust. The lightweight material will keep you cool during the day, and for evening we suggest a sexy fur wrap (to see our current stock click here). Now find a fabulous mask, a pair stunning yet comfortable heels (ha! as if they exist), and book it down to Louisianna, sister! For more information about this year's festivities click here.

Wanna Get Meshy?

We know that lately we have been using the term "perfect for Summer" a lot lately, but these are Loris Azzaro lurex woven mesh tops. If these are not good for summer we don't know what is.

The first top is a woven gold lurex halter with a triangle pattern formed with strands of gold and silver metal chain. Hanging from the bottom of each chain are pearls and amber/clear crystal beads. Hanging form the bottom of the top are alternating gold and silver metal chains.

The second top is woven blue lurex halter with a keyhole opening in front. There are strands of metallic blue chain draped in a scallop pattern covering the top. Behind the neck and on the back are two closures that fasten with clear blue crystal fixtures.
