FLOWERS BY ADOLFO

Easter Sunday I always do brunch with my parents.   The other thing I always do is transfer my closet from fall to spring.  It seems rather absurd to do considering I am an Angelino who really doesn’t have to deal with a hearty winter, but I still enjoy the tradition and thankfully I travel a lot so there are opportunities to wear the triple-ply cashmere, fur lined boots, and cornucopia of coats when I head east during the fall and winter.  However, I am sure the crocuses are ready to reveal their gorgeous irises so soon enough flowers will be filling your gardens and why not adorn yourself in flowers by Adolfo?  Adolfo may be best known for his Chanel inspired ready-to-wear that he started in 1962  (after being an apprentice to Balenciaga and conquering success as a milliner), but decades of design proves that he did much more than a boucle suit.  This late 1970s silk dress is the perfect elegant spring evening dress that is ideal for weddings or a chic garden party.  You could even wear it tomorrow, but I would hate to see someone hunting for eggs in Adolfo.  Black silk crepe with a print of white and red roses on an incredibly figure flattering silhouette (always love a good V-seam) is a guarantee that YOU will be receiving your bouquet of roses.

Adolfo, you're a Star.

This is only the second Adolfo piece we have had in the store for the past six years. The reason is most Adolfo is just not that good. For the most part all they did was copy Chanel suiting, creating a line that screamed "ladies who lunch." This dress however is splendid, nothing at all like the rest of the line. The dress is black silk chiffon with an intricate star burst pattern sewn onto the outer chiffon layer. The interior of the dress is lined with silk satin, and both layers were cut on the bias. The bias cut gives the material a little wiggle room without having to be made from jersey or anything elastic. Pair this with a nice pair of black heels and a Leiber miniaudiere clutch to complete the black tie look.

Prepare for the Holiday Party Season.

To herald in the first day of fall (which happens to be 18 days from now) we have decided to post these great Fall/Winter blouses. One must prepare for the holiday party season, and these blouses are the perfect start to a fabulous Fall wardrobe. Any one of these lovely pieces can be dressed up, or worn down, depending on what the occasion calls for.

The first blouse is a black silk crepe Ted Lapidus piece with black lace embellishments on the collar, down the front, and around the cuffs. For a casual look, this blouse can be paired with jeans, or it can be tucked in to a monochromatic pencil skirt for a classically chic look. The second blouse is an archetypal Yves Saint Laurent cream secretary blouse with princess shoulders, cuffs, and an attached bow. The bow around the neck can be worn up or hanging down on either side of the buttons (as shown). Last, but certainly not least, a stunning gold Adolfo lurex evening blouse. This piece screams HOLIDAY PARTY! Hanging from the collar are two strips of pleated gold lurex material on either side that can be tied in a bow, or hanging down either side of the button strip.

I LIKE THE NIGHT LIFE

The invitation just arrived and it states: You are cordially invited to the greatest birthday party ever. You continue reading with excitement and then you see the DRESS CODE: 70s Disco Chic! "Oi Vey," you say. And then you think of me...your dearly beloved blog and know that this dress code ain't nothing to worry about because DECADES has the answers and our suggestions are below:

The Halston heavy matte jersey V neck dress is for those who want a bit of the Studio 54 vibe, but want a dress that is a foundation for fabulous accessories. Mix this up with a ton of bangles, huge hoop earrings, and a strappy metallic sandal. The dress is Halston, after all...it is Studio 54 Disco 70s fabulous-ness, yet thoroughly modern and appropriate for various cocktail opportunities, regardless of a theme dress code.

Then there is the party goer who loves a little drama. Well, this Adolfo for Saks Fifth Avenue silk leopard print dress is 70s indulgence and has blingy jet bead buttons on the cuffs and down the front for extra pizazz. Finally, there are the ladies out there who love to dance and this Holly's Harp matte jersey dress has a fluid skirt, spaghetti straps, and a cris-cross gathered jersey effect neckline that makes the wearer want to twirl in circles. So here are three options for those who like the night life and need a touch of 70s to get through it!
