A GRAND NIGHT

With New Year's Eve just five days away, what will you do and more important what will you wear?  I will probably be in J. Crew sweats and asleep at 9 30 pm PST.  However, I am counting on some fabulous Decades clients to really represent and party like it's 1999 or 2013 or the end of the world or whatever apocolapytic curse may be raising havoc on us.  If you want to do it and look timeless at the same time, I am smitten with this sensational Traina-Norell ball gown/evening dress which is the epitome of glamour.  When you look back at pictures of yourself from NYE won't you prefer to look like an icon and not a fashion victim?  This 1950s ball gown (unless you truly elite petite the length will hit your ankles or above) has copper sunflowers with metallic gold centers throughout the organza fabric.  The sweetheart neckline with ruched bosom and V-straps also has a figure flattering belt and full skirt over crinoline.  They just don't make dresses like this anymore because it is prohibitive unless you are in the market for Haute Couture.  A gorgeous pump and diamond studs and you are set.  It is so easy to be timeless as we enter a new year becuase this dress will stop time.

DOUBLE THE BOW DOUBLE THE FUN

Just like Mrs. Obama's Norell black dress worn to celebrate Christmas, this is another perfect option for any winter festivities that you might need to attend this year. Elegant and chic this Traina Norell is done in such clever and modern way that it simultaneously inspires and makes you feel the not-so-obvious innocent optimism. The bows, not one but two, the crinoline skirt and the tea length are what make this one of the best LBD we have seen in a while. As Christian Dior once said back in 1954: "if you need to chose the perfect dress for a festive event, chose black". And is clear that the First Lady knows best.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM DECADES!

Here are some snapshots of our Holiday windows. They are festive and colorful featuring two amazing dresses from the 50's from the Olivier estate. The black velvet ensemble is from Irene Lentz who made costumes for Ginger Rogers and Lana Turner in the 40's and the velvet dress in magenta is Traina-Norell. Celebrating these amazing American designers we wanted to celebrate fashion, old and new! Here's to a New Year filled with abundance, joy and treasured moments!

Bittersweet Travesty

Just a few days ago the most gorgeous Traina-Norell gown, in a dove grey jersey with platinum sequins made its way into our store. Fortunately and unfortunately the dress was such a stunner it sold before we could even photograph it for our beloved followers. However, the daughter of the original owner sent us this absolutely glorious vintage photograph of her mother wearing the Traina-Norell. This photograph epitomizes vintage glamour and we could not be happier to share this with all of you! We're hoping the new owner sends us a photo of herself in the gown to watch this early 1950s Traina-Norell throughout the Decades!

Match Made in Heaven

In 1941, at the height of the second World War, Anthony Traina and Norman Norell teamed up to form Traina-Norell. Due to the war, women in the United States were unable to access french designer clothing. The gap left by the French designers was quickly filled by Traina-Norell as they produced evening wear of the highest caliber for their discerning socialite clientele.

This lovely black and bubble-gum pink party dress is perfect for the holiday party season. The black bustier top has internal boning and two spaghetti straps. The skirt portion has a slight drop waist and an internal crinoline sewn into the bottom of the skirt. Just below the waist is a pink bow that wraps around the hips. Classic and chic, when paired with a nice fur wrap nothing could be better.
