JEAN PAUL GAULTIER LOOKING EAST

Jean Paul Gaultier's latest couture show in Paris was more of a retrospective of his own works in the last decades. With everything that pushed bounderies and collapsed taboos, he brought back on the runway his refined ideas and his muses, older but yet full of supermodel glamour.
This piece we have in the studio is a 90's kimono inspired blouse by Jean Paul Gaultier, in a printed silk very reminiscent of a modern Japan reflected also in tailoring details such as the obilike belts placed just under the arm and the functioning side flap pockets.
Gaultier has always carried the torch of tradition with as much passion as he has challenged fashion.
For a look of behind the scenes at the Jean Paul Gaultier runway show, please watch Tim Blanks Couture Reels here where you will have also a chance to look at our own Cameron!!

JPG HAUTE COUTURE

From Jean Paul Gaultier's Haute Couture collection of Summer 2004 titled "LES SAMOURIAS", is this spectacular gauze-chiffon peasant blouse with cafe au lait crepe pants. Originally modeled on the runway by Yasmin Warsame in an editorial-friendly version that was sheer and shown with a long skirt, this Couture client took advantage of her relationship with JPG and added a few layers to the blouse to make it more wearable. She also had the pants made as an alternative to the skirt to make this more accessible yet still dramatique.

I am really feeling JPG as of late. Perhaps its the current retrospective happening in Montreal; or my intuition that the House will have a renaissance since M. Gaultier no longer has distractions of additionally designing for Hermes, I am seeking more JPG for Decades. It may just be own nostalgia, as I wore JPG purchased on sale from Maxfield in the 1980s and only wish I had kept everything. Lesson learned.
