KATY PERRY ESQUE

Since Katy Perry is having a slip moment, why can't you?  This Biba peach slip dress is really the ultimate foundation piece that you can wear out and about.  Not a Spanx, mind you, but a dress that would like chic with a myriad of layers (throw a cashmere cardi over it and belt it for a very Prada moment) or as shown maybe with a vintage denim Levi jacket for a mix of soft and hard?   The thing with slip dresses, you have to make sure you don't have a nip slip while wearing it, so a little top stick might be a necessity unless you are Madonna giving a concert in Istanbul.

GLITTERY BIBA

'Wherever the girls went there was silence. Elly was completely blue: blue make-up, blue clothes, blue cap and blue curls. Eva was all green, Del all violet. Some girls were all in black... in their full regalia looking as if they had just left a Fellini set.' Barbara Hulanicki, describing the impact of the Biba look in 'From A to Biba'.
As hippy chic once again ventures into fashion front line and if you observe new stores opening up everyday with the mix of antique fixtures and vintage clothing, it's is clear that the legacy of Biba lives on.
We paired this super chic and super sparkly bolero jacket with a Biba black strapless column dress. In true Biba form it fits perfect on a size 0 or 2.

BIG BIBA

Helmed by Barbara Hulanicki, the Biba store was a magnet for all chic young London girls in the 60's. A young Anna Wintour allegedly worked and shopped Biba. Biba's first shop opened in 1964. Packed with girls trying on brown pin-stripe dresses in concentrated silence, the Biba overall aesthetic relied on dark burgundies, browns, plums and earth tones. The Biba take on the 60's was a sort of skinny almost deprived 20' Follies girl. Even though different from The Mod Squad esthetic, Biba sales were off the roof.
With this spectacular 3 piece ensemble in rich brown and black jacquard with beautifully designed details; the super sexy off centre side split of the skirt with the revealing halter top and the playful coat with matching fabric buttons, you can go from conservative to sexy just by removing the coat.
We have recently acquired quite an amazing collection from this ground-breaking 60's and early 70's London Underground fashion. We will be posting them all so stay tuned!

Cameron Silver and Christos Garkinos of Decades

Last night, we held a wee soirée (and by wee, we mean oh, 200 of our nearest and dearest) along with the ever-stylish Gilt Groupe, to toast the debut of our new shoe collection, designed in tandem with Modern Vintage. And not to toot our own horn, but the shoes themselves are so gorgeous, they are guaranteed to knock any serious shoe fetishist's socks right off (and into these heels). Considering our fashion forté, Cameron Silver et al. imbued each shoe with the style of a specific decade, from the chic curved heel of the 50s to the downtown glam of a tiered wedge in the 80s.

At the party, LA's luminatti, including a bevy of beauties such as Ashley Madekwe, Lisa Rinna, and Garcelle Beauvais, showed in groves to peep the preview of the collection and sip couture cocktails courtesy of Svedka, with each specialty elixir also mixed with the spirit of one of our chosen decades as well as a top-shelf Svedka infused vodka as well as Activate vitamin beverages for the teetotalers, and peruse a rotating fashion show of models decked to the nines in our singular Biba collection (keep your eyes peeled for upcoming Decades Biba blog posts on the recently acquired spectacular pieces) and of course, the Decades for Modern Vintage Shoes.

I myself was partial to the 70s--I went for the Svedka 70s moonshine as well as the black and gold braided cork pump. You know you're having a good time when your entire look from head to toe to glass are perfect for a Ron Gallela photograph.

All in all, the night was exquisite, the company was lovely (both inside and out), the drinks were delicious and the shoes stood apart from the rest of your everyday foot candy. Not surprising. These kicks are truly sweet indeed.

Biba, not Bieber!

If you're going to chaperone (we know you bought the tickets and grabbed the closest child to drag to the concert, you're not fooling anyone) an unruly gaggle of pre-teens to a Bieber concert, might we recommend this fuchsia crepe Biba dress.

It is fun and flirty without being trashy (you know what I mean, the mom in a denim-mini and neon green tube top three rows in front. Not cute.). The high collar to an open bust with capped shoulders and long sleeves. The light weight wool crepe will keep you nice and cool amidst the throngs of convulsing pre-teens. Good luck to you!

THAT 70S SHOW

It is a glorious day in Los Angeles. Mid-70s with the sun shining and the sky so clear and blue. It may be winter elsewhere but at Decades we are feeling like it "might as well be spring" regardless of seeing a crocus or a rosebud! So today seemed like the perfect day to post this ultra 70s coral colored Biba right-on-trend bell bottom pant suit with matching jersey shell. The puff shoulder and elongated silhouette of the jacket is totally signature Biba.

The influence of the 70s on fashion is all over the runways. I loved Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 collection. Fashion critics took notice of the Yves Saint Laurent references, but I felt there was was also an ode to Biba.

So let's get back to our Biba. We don't purchase a lot of Biba at Decades because women really wore those clothes like crazy so the condition of those vintage treasures can become a challenge. However, this ensemble is approved by Team Decades. I know we often talk about "two-fers" but this is a "three-fer".

The jacket would be brilliant with a pair of cute denim shorts. The jersey tank is really well cut, quite sexy and easy to dress up for a cocktail look. As for the pants, they are the silhouette of the season (once again)...sexy bell-bottom that hugs the derriere. The huge floppy hats Marc Jacobs showed on his runway might just be the perfect accessory to top off this "three-fer".

Biba

With Biba in the midst of making a major comeback, a shop recently opened in San Francisco if you can believe that, and Spring 2007 line just months away at Decades we have to say. Vintage is still in!

The new collection, which showed in London two weeks ago, didn't receive the best reviews so try on some original Biba from the 60s. This hot pink crepe cocktail dress is vampy and sultry. The covered button cuffs suggest a touch of Saville Row tailoring, while the cut-out bust is all Carnaby Street freelove. A super cute look for a super cute girl this dress is as hot as the color!
