MIDNIGHT IN PARIS

Are you ready for 2014?  I am, but I won't be partying like it's 1999.  We are preparing for award season and the events start happening in LA LA land literally in days!  If short is the new long; long sleeve is the new sleeveless; and navy is the new black (sorry, orange), then isn't this Emanuel Ungaro the right dress for 2013 into 2014?  Midnight blue paillettes decorate a round neck long sleeve dress with signature Ungaro-ruching at the bust and hip.  It's part-Dynasty with a touch of Beverly Hills Bar Mitzvah c. 1982.  However, add a dash of 21st century minimal glam with streamlined hair, yet complex shoes and suddenly this dress might just be perfect for a Balmain runway show c. next February in Paris.  Midnight in Paris never looked so good!  Please share photos of your NYE dresses by tagging @decadesinc or @camerondecades.  We want to see you look good when the clock strikes 2014!

COSTA RICA!

I plan to blog like mad before I go off the grid and head to the jungles of Costa Rica.  I am in a tropical mood.  I am visiting my friend's new eco-yoga retreat called THE SANCTUARY.
I need to buy river shoes, a head lamp, and we are encouraged to bring a sarong...oh and pack really light!  I can do light and I don't think I will be wearing this Emanuel Ungaro scarf as a sarong, but I certainly hope someone does!  One side is silk; and the other is the softest wool.  The jacquard print is infused with metallic highlights and trimmed in fringe.  This is not your grandma's piano shawl.  It will work as a wrap over you shoulders or around your booty.  It's versatile and gorgeous and pretty much will match just about any color you can find in the rainbow.   Jarred styled it with an Alaia tank.  Probably more Saint Tropez than Tambor.

BONNIE AND CLYDE

Two months ago I wrote about the passing of legendary costume designer Theadora Van Runkle. She famously costumed the stars above in the 1974 film "Bonnie and Clyde." I have a feeling the Emanuel Ungaro skirt suit below was likely inspired by the film and comes around the same year. Ungaro shortened the length of the skirt and uses a pattern that evokes the mid 70s in wool and lined in silk. This is the best part: It is marked size 12. Now I know
Annelise Peterson tweeted to me @Annelise007 yesterday that she can't get around buying a vintage garment that is marked a size 10 but fits a size 4 to 6. Remember Age ain't nothin' but a number and neither is size!

GODDESS OF STYLE

Inspired by the Hellenic statues from the second half of the fourth century BC, Emanuel Ungaro created classical gowns that remind us of Artemis, goddess of the hunt or Themis, goddess of custom and law. This Ungaro classical couture gown in pleated chiffon has very clearly defined attributes of a Greek goddess and at the same time it is modern in the fit and fabric quality. It's a versatile dress to wear at formal events or a fun relaxed birthday party.
Using pleating and draping techniques, inspired by clothing of thousands years ago, Ungaro proved with this dress, that classical design done well is never passé and always very modern.

TAYLOR/HILTON/WILDING/TODD/FISHER/BURTON/BURTON/WARNER/FORTENSY/

You may ask yourself what does "TAYLOR/HILTON/WILDING/TODD/FISHER/BURTON/BURTON/WARNER/FORTENSKY" have to do with the vintage Emanuel Ungaro dress below? Well think about how many designers have served as Creative Director of Ungaro since Monsieur Ungaro retired:
Giambattista Valli
Vincent Darre
Peter Dundas
Esteban Cortazar
Estrella Archs
Sort of Lindsay Lohan
Giles Deacon

Okay so the House of Ungaro has not been "married" as many times as the late Elizabeth Taylor, but with seven creative directors in around a decade, can this House survive? It sure should since Ungaro has always been one of my favorites. His use of color; the femininity of design; elegance that mixes with modernity with the past. The man trained with Balenciaga. He knew how to make a woman look spectacular. Take for example this pleated fuchsia evening gown that reminds me of a 30s movie star but in a pop of color that is very late 1980s. The Deco strass clips add a touch of sparkle and cross-over bust line is so flattering on the bosom.

This is not a gown strictly for the hyphenated last name set. However, don't be surprised if someone wants to add their initials to your monogram when you wear this.

LEATHER GOODS

As we are now transitioning into fall, fashion week comes to mind and what to wear. This super sexy chic Emanuel Ungaro leather dress is all that. The stretch leather makes for a very comfortable fit and once the dress is on the right woman, worn with python boots and fur coat, all eyes will be on you. It can be worn two ways with the zipper in front or back. The statement shoulders will give you your very own come-hither Lauren Bacall look.

Embrasse-moi

This sexy little cocktail dress by Emmanuel Ungaro is perfect for the woman who's out for a good time. The flirty little silk strapless number is black with a fun red lip pattern and is sure to be spotted in a crowded room. There is tight ruching around the top, and the bottom has two fabric swags that tie off in a bow to the left side. If you are feeling frisky, this might be just the ticket to a perfect weekend. *Daniel* Ungaro black with red lips pattern strapless dress. Marked size 10, modern size 4. c. 80s SOLD

Not for the mine!

Its hard to believe that up until 1987 English miners were taking canaries into coal mines! This Emanuel Ungaro dress may be canary yellow, but it should not go anywhere near a coal mine.

The vibrant yellow dress is a nice summer-weight viscose jersey. The construction of the dress is very interesting; essentially a ruched mini-dress with a fishtail skirt. Perfect for dancing the night away on Diddy's yacht. Just don't twirl too much, or you'll end up on the dock with Naomi.

GOLDEN FANS

Today is a day for the fans, especially golden ones. After all, it's the Golden Globes and the fans are out and about in full force for a red carpet that is just hours away. There have been so many pre-Globe parties. I went to the Bvlgari gala Thursday night at Green Acres (Ricky Martin performed); the W party at Chateau Marmont on Friday night (everyone was there but I was most excited to congratulate Melissa Leo on her win earlier in the day at the Broadcast Critic's Awards); and last night I attended the annual Heaven Gala benefiting Art of Elysium where Rachel Bilson and I presented our friend Jasmine, who has enjoyed discovering her inner fashionista through the programs that The Art of Elysium has organized (Devo performed!). It's also literally a golden day in Los Angeles as the sun is in full force and the temperature is approaching 80 degrees. No Vitamin D deficiency in Tinsel Town today.

It seems the most appropriate vintage piece to blog today is something that is golden and has a fan and low and behold, here is an Emanuel Ungaro design in silk jacquard that fills the bill . The romantic blouse has full 1930s style sleeves and an unusual asymmetric pleated fan that decorates the front of the elegant top. The skirt has a slight yoke waist band and pleats over each hip. So many details that manage to work so well together in an ultra feminine and supremely sophisticated manner that celebrates fans and is good as gold. I don't expect any fans on the bleachers at tonight's Globes to wear something so Parisian, but wouldn't it be lovely?

Now it's time for me to get a few rays of sun. I've been in retail jail so many hours this week that I need my share of Vitamin D. Have fun watching the Globes.

THE UN LACE in HONOR OF NATIONAL LACE DAY!

It is National Lace Day. Banks are closed; Wall Street isn't trading; and Fashionista's are choosing lace to mark this momentous occasions and we have our own take on this day and are excited to celebrate it with you.

This dress is made so beautifully it is hard to believe that is simply an Anonymous dress that a chic woman had made for her nearly 30 years ago in the spirit of Emanuel Ungaro draped bustier dresses. It may not be Haute Couture, but it is beautifully hand-finished and the fabric is fantastic print of lace on tomato red chiffon. It is this clever un-lace chiffon that gives this dress a particularly distinctive quality that is an ideal year round option for a woman of style and substance. If you love the sexy and appropriate nature of Emanuel Ungaro's signature ruched 80s dresses, we think this dress channels that essence all the way...
