MADAME GRÈS

Our darling Cameron is currently in Paris attending the Haute Couture shows. As you might have followed him via Huffington Post Blog, Cameron has been keeping us up to date with the latest from all the major couture runway shows. One of his Paris stops, Cameron visited the Madame Grès, La Couture à L’Oeuvre'. The exhibit is the 1st retrospective in Paris of the work of this visionary couturier, an amazing exhibition organized by the Musée Galliera, and showcased at Musée Bourdelle. Madame Grès was a sculptor and she applied the same philosophy working with fabric as she did with stone. Mainly famous for her use of jersey and draping (thanks to her incredible technique a width of jersey of 280 cm would end up as only just 7cm wide !), Madame Grès symbolizes the very essence of couture, the rigor of minimalism.
And here we have one of Madame Grès creations, this magnificent garden green yarn-dyed taffeta, with a straight side-split skirt underneath a layer of ruched tier. The gown comes with a cape which is entirely detachable giving the dress an entire second look. It is the prefect dress for a gala, red carpet or a royal wedding.

Pretty in Pink

Or the many shades thereof! Heading to any of the remaining after parties for the awards season? Or perhaps you are just going to be hosting at home chez vous? A little soiree for the Oscars. Even if you will not be joining me on the red carpet you can turn the carpets at home any shade you want when you descend into the gathered friends in a gorgeous house gown like the one below.

It may seem silly but dressing like this at home is great practice for the nights when you actually do get to go out on the town. Until then practice makes perfect and perfectly glamorous in this gown.

Anonymous, late 50s, multi-hued pink and magenta draped evening gown. Contemporary size 4.

The style of Halston is unmistakable and ever triumphant in its drapery and construction of the garment. Attempting to replicate his style has been the goal of many designer at many different times since his mark on fashion was made indelible.

Even though it is Anonymous, this fire engine red gown comes close to the look that is Halston.

Anonymous, 70s, Red jersey halter gown with gathered back detail and swooping wrap wings to be worn in a variety of ways. SOLD

Saks Fifth Avenue Gown

For a touch of old school glamour with some Classic Hollywood in the mix, I suggest staying clean and simple with this nautically inspired full length gown. With just a touch of flounce in the hem and the soft color of white with the contrasted navy this is one of those gowns that you can wear in the summer to a Charity event or even to a less formal event with a little cardigan to tone down the glamour.

Saks Fifth Avenue, 70s, Midnight navy and white color block gown with crystal detailed bust.
