GOT ABS

This is the season of the midriff.  If you've been living at Tracy Anderson, this is your moment!  And what better way to show off a toned tummy...in Missoni.  We have had the one-piece version of this famous multi color fringe and floral print, but quite magically the two piece has just arrived.  The top could be wonderful with a pair of denim cut-offs.  (Tracy Anderson legs needed).  The skirt with a tank and denim jacket worn with sandals could be fresh and hippie chic.  Mix it and match it, but whatever you do, make sure you have had a colonic before you wear this (quick flat abs)!  I kid.  This just demands a killer six pack (two pack is actually fine with me) and a trip to Cannes, don't you think?  I LOVE THIS.  I can't wait to find out who buys it.  If you don't have abs of steel, you can always wear the top asymmetric with a shell and have a little modesty.
Stay chic and sexy,

WE WILL MISS (ONI) YOU 2012

I managed to get some sort of food poisoning yesterday so I will start the new year slimmer.  In an effort to distract from the nausea, I have spent way too much time on Instagram -- seeing friends spending their holidays in places where this Missoni silk jersey caftan gown makes great sense.  Think Cabo, St. Barths, Dubai or Rio.  I type from bed but I am wearing a Givenchy tee-shirt with my Uggs so trying to be chic and comfortable which is exactly what this 1970s Missoni is all about.  A cream (almost tea-stained) gown with attached cape that has a stunning floral print and multi-color fringe.  This remains one of my favorite Missoni designs of all time.  Various versions of this dress have come our way and it always sells quite quickly because it's a show-stopper which is just as home on a beach barefoot, as it would be at a grand international wedding with an updo'.  It's a great way to start 2013: comfortable, sexy, iconic.

NO "MIS-TERY" WHY WE HEART MISSONI

If you live in LA, you may have noticed that the Missoni boutique on Rodeo Drive mysteriously closed last month...less than a year after the star-studded party belated opening party where the family received a "Walk of Style" award.  The sudden closure of the boutique was shrouded in a bit of mystery and reports allude to a dispute with the landlord, but there's no mystery why Missoni endures since being founded in 1953.  We are all nuts for the Missoni knits.  They are as perennial in fashion as animal prints and one shoulder dresses.  Always in style.  A typical Missoni top is around $1000 these days (I am excluding the Missoni for Target variety).  The gathered cardigan below (there also is a coordinating pull over that I will add on Monday) is a lot more affordable and in a great blend of wool and cotton...so seasonless in weight.  Loving a vintage Missoni top with bleached out denim and an ultra thin tee or cami.  So much more elegant than a sweatshirts or a solid knit, the iconic Missoni pattern is always recognizable and often copied.  It's what you really need if you are summering in the 'Bu or Aspen.

The Rodeo Drive Missoni boutique may have shuttered, but at Decades we have a nice collection of vintage Missoni we plan to post in the next week to keep you covered.

YOU ARE NUTS FOR KNITS

Apparently Decades lovers are nuts for knits since Aimee Mann's mid 80s Galliano pieces sold so fast. Aren't knit dresses the chic alternative to ForeverLazy onesies? After all, it is one piece that covers what needs to be covered and a knit dress is so comfy you can sleep in it or wear it to the next tailgate party!

This dead stock magenta lurex-infused Missoni dress has a distinctive raised pattern in addition to grids. I love how Missoni knows how to mix patterns and colors that is is a signature of the Italian House. You can easily wear this on NYE with some sparkly tights and sky-high Atwoods or dress it down with a pair of Ferragamo flats. Totally day to evening. This dress was NEVER worn and is part of a large cache of deadstock vintage I purchased a few months ago, but seems to be selling more quickly than we can post! I am nuts for knits, and some might argue that I am just nuts, but I don't fear self-deprecation especially in the wee hours of the morning!

THIS IS NOT A SNUGGIE

The weather has changed in LA, it is cold and rainy, which is a nice incentive to stay home this Thanksgiving. To match this mood and for a super comfort and chic effect, get this Missoni long sweater for the 70's. It is the perfect piece which can be worn as a sweater, a dress or a coat. It inspires winter vacations, skiing in Piemonte mountains in Italy, and drinking hot chocolate in a cozy chalet. Celebrate this Thanksgiving by celebrating comfort and of course yourself.

IN CASE YOU MISSED OUR MISSONI WINDOWS

In honor of the much-hyped and quickly depleted Missoni+Target collaboration, we put in our own Missoni windows featuring two 70s silk jersey caftans on the vintage side and two modern print dresses on the other side. I really wanted to get the store Missoni hand towels for the bathrooms and cups and plates for our kitchen, but I missed the boat. With eBay sellers pricing their Target merch for the price of collection Missoni, maybe I should head straight to Rodeo Drive! We will post pictures of our Fall window shortly.

MISSONI MISSION

With all the sold out craziness that went on with Missoni's collection for Target we can only imagine that in no time everyone will be sporting Missoni's signature zigzag print. While it is a good thing for high end designers to make such collaborations in order to reach a wider audience, there is a fear that you might be wearing the same sweater as quite a few ladies, or even toddlers, in your next dinner out or at a birthday party. And because you might be now on a Missoni mission, we offer you this truly unique vintage Missoni sweater 100% merino wool with the most amazing sleeve detail. It is something between a throw and a sweater with a completely fresh print and pockets. It all ties together at the bottom with a wool blue laniere creating a bubble effect. Pair it with some flared jeans a la Jane Birkin and you will be the it girl who new Missoni was cool way before this Target madness.

IF YOU MISSED MONDAY'S MISSONI....

There were a lot of emails and calls and even a few BBMs on my BlackBerry for the Missoni I posted Monday. It sold so fast and disappointed quite a few friends of Decades. So I did what any vintage couture retailer should do: I hoped that another vintage Missoni caftan-style dress might come my way and fortunately this lurex floral dress in shades of grey, tangerine, and jade arrived today. The center of the dress is fitted with seams running down the side to define your body and give shape. The dramatic caftan-reminiscent sleeves are free to billow in the Moroccan breeze. The coordinating sash belt literally ties the entire look together which takes inspiration from many Eastern cultures, but adds a European flair by way of the great Missoni print and unusual lurex fabrication.

WE'VE MISSED MISSONI

I have always loved Missoni. I can remember buying sweaters on sale at Neiman's in the late 80s (I was precocious and must have thought I was a Huxtable). When I opened Decades in 1997, I started searching for early Missoni pieces like space-dye vests and pullovers. They never go out of style and always look cool. As I learned more about Missoni's rich design history, I became familiar with the more unusual prints, fabrications, and styles that are part of the DNA of this legendary brand.

With a base of red jersey printed with an Asian-inspired floral and bird motif, this is Missoni at its most dramatic and remains one of my favorite designs by the House. Incorporating an attached shawl with degrade fringe that functions like a cape, the body of the dress is quite fitted and ultimately very sexy. There is a sash belt that can be tied around the waist or tied at the back which helps highlight your shape.

Totally luxe and totally unusual, this is the insider's Missoni.

Transitional Missoni

What does one wear during the mid-season? Every year we are faced with the same dilemma, how do you dress when it is no longer winter, but not quite spring? This Missoni is the answer to that age old question, this is what you wear. The viscose wool blend knit is light enough for those warm days, and the colors are perfect for the fall/winter months. If you are still recovering from the holidays, say at Villa Malaparte on Capri, this would be the uniform. Comfortable, easy to throw on, and chic as hell, this is Missoni. Now lay on your deck with a good book, possible by Gore Vidal, and escape.

Night and Day, Day and Night . . .

If you are planning a getaway before summer slips away, here are two looks that can be thrown in the overnight bag for a very simple and chic weekend. The evening look is an Yves Saint Laurent white silk with black and magenta floral print kimono style wrap dress. The dress is trimmed with black ribbon and has a black belt. This is a look that can be easily dressed up or down, according to what would be deemed appropriate. The day look is a three piece set by Missoni. The skirt is a dusty rose color wool, nylon and linen blend that has been woven in such a way that it almost looks as though it were pleated. The top is a front and back shallow V neck short sleeve done in the same material, with a few added green, orange, purple, blue and red horizontal stripes. The last piece in the set is a button down deep V neck vest, done in the same colorful material as the top. If you don't want to try very hard, but still want to have a stylish ensemble, both of these looks are perfect!
