ENDLESS LOVE

All the eyes were on MOCA last Saturday celebrating its 35th anniversary. But as soon as the lights went out Diana Ross was at the center of the attention with a surprise performance. She has been an inspiration for Team Decades through the years and it never stops. From her amazing voice to her super glam outfits from Bob Mackie to Tom Ford, we are always inspired. It was emotional to see her in a bright red sequin gown perform "I'm Coming out" to a room full of artists. We continue to celebrate Diana Ross with these iconic looks. Click on the links below to purchase or email us with any questions.
The time has come for me
To break out of this shell
I have to shout
That I am coming out !!!

SHAVE YOUR BROWS

I am so excited for the new book coming out next month on the legendary fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez by Roger Padilha and Mauricio Padilha. Antonio illustrations famously appeared in VOGUE, BAZAAR, INTERVIEW, and ELLE.  With his creative collaborator, Juan E. Lopez, they discovered a myriad of legendary fashion fixtures from Tina Chow to Jessica Lange to Grace Jones. The subtitle of the book is FASHION, ART, SEX, and DISCO.  Quite possibly my four favorite things.  I asked co-author Mauricio to choose a dress from Decades that he thinks Antonio would have loved to illustrate and he chose the Bob Mackie below because "...the dress is very reminiscent of Antonio and Juan's  days in Paris in the early 70s where he was inspired by Deco Glamour, and his entourage consisted of models Jane Forth, Donna Jordan and Pat Cleveland all running around Paris in vintage Deco gowns and shaved eyebrows!"  I am not suggesting you need to shave your brows to wear this Mackie but the bronze and black sequin stripes, surplus black, and Dynasty shoulders would have surely gotten you spotted in Antonio's crowd.  Perhaps the purchaser of this dress will be the next Tina, Jessica, or Grace?

VERY PREMIERE

Greetings from Paris.  I am ready to get inspired by this season's Haute Couture.  I am intrigued by Dolce & Gabanna's decision to do a non-press Couture presentation for select clients in Taormina on the 9th of July.  Could this be a reaction to Gucci and Frida Giannini's successful red carpet collection titled Premiere? I do think many of Giannini's gowns bare a resemblance to Bob Mackie's work in their embroidered opulence and body-conscious silhouettes. This bronze gown has a dramatic alternative to a portrait neckline as it's a beaded rope attached to an illusion yoke and mock-neck.  The ingenious placement of curved beaded white lines slim and elongante the figure, almost like a trompe l'oeil Stella McCartney dress.

Of course you could buy a five figure Gucci gown that you have already seen on Blake Lively or Salma Hayek, but wouldn't you prefer to be an original and incomparable in vintage Mackie?  Back to the shows...

MACKIE ISN'T JUST FOR CHER

The Oscars may have come and gone without a Cher-in-Bob Mackie-moment, but we can still deliver to you some over-the-top glam by maestro Mackie. However, this may be a bit too conservative for Cher, but inside every Decades Diva is an inner-Cher so let her out and shimmy in this rainbow striped icicle Bob Mackie design that is red carpet ready. With strong shoulders and an elongating Missoni-esque pyramid placed striped silhouette, this dress is both body conscious without revealing too much information. That's what I call sexy, modern, and super festive!

MAC ATTACK

Following the American festivities of Thanksgiving, we thought it would be appropriate to post a dress by a great living American fashion designer: Bob Mackie. Now, let's give Mackie his props. We believe his brilliant costume designing for Carol Burnett and Cher often overshadows his talents as a great evening wear designer. Mackie may know camp costuming, but he sure knows his way around a gorgeous evening gown, too. The fuchsia and violet "scale" print silk gown is an example of classic American glamour and has less to do with velvet drapes as a gown (Carol Burnett as Scarlett O'Hara, of course) and more to do with a gown that beautifully sculpts the body in draped and gathered silk.

This gown certainly well highlight an ample busom and the fuschia color is flattering on so many of our clients. The print is very subtle, but it gives this gown added depth and a sense of texture. If Mackie is considered a showman of a designer, then let the show go on! You will be a showstopper in this classic silhouette and strapless gown.

CHOCO-MACKIE

The beautiful Bob Mackie gown on our lovely model is a chocolate lover's dream. The classic Mackie look is achieved using an iridescent chiffon. As you move in the dress, the colors change from a dark chocolate to a milk chocolate, relative to the lighting that is hitting the gown at the time. This gown has a bustier top with boning held up by spaghetti straps that split to form a triangular shape just past the shoulder. The back of the gown is the same chocolate material which is gathered towards the zipper and forms the Mackie V shape. If you were Willy Wonka's date to the 2008 Confectioner's Ball, we would say this gown is very appropriate!

MACKIE-TASTIC!

Cher, eat your heart out. Here at Decades, we are drowning in Bob Mackie! Come in now if you can, because this is the closest you will ever get to the diva, Cher's closet (or at least what we imagine it must be like). To learn more about Bob Mackie, click Here. The gown is constructed of two silk chiffon materials in grey tones. The top has Juliette sleeves that gather towards the bust to form a sweetheart neckline. The lighter grey material creates a classic Mackie V shape in the back, and cascades down the gown, lining the front knee high slip. The second is a strapless silk chiffon gown in an extremely special color. The color is International Klein Blue (IKB), created by the world renowned Neo-Dadaist French artist Yves Klein. This bustier gown design with a knee high slit on the left side. Both of these are classic Bob Mackie designs, and appear to have never been worn, come and get them before the diva does. (Personal note; Cher if you are reading this, the Vegas show is AMAZING! The costumes, to die for! If you ever want to clean out that closet . . .)

White Knight

A vision in white! The first gown was designed by Oscar de Larenta for Balmain Haute Couture for the Spring/Summer 1997 collection. It is constructed of white silk satin with a partial black floral print design. The top of the gown is a bustier that has been pleated in the back and has two black gros grain ribbon straps. Along with the gown there is a white crinoline underskirt constructed of tulle flounces to give the skirt some volume. When we put this piece on the mannequin everyone began rubbing their eyes with amazement. This is a very special gown that should be worn to a very special event.

The second gown is by Bob Mackie. This gown is a pleated one shoulder constructed of cream chiffon with a bugle bead detail around the bust. the back of the gown dips down in a V shape to a central zipper. A strip of cream chiffon drips down the the back of the left shoulder creating a very dramatic flow when seen from behind. Both of these gowns were not created for the mundane, they were made for the extraordinary, and should be thought of as such. Also, they appear to have never been worn, as they are in immaculate condition!

Vanessa Paradis and Kylie Minogue in Decades Vintage!

French chanteuse Vanessa Paradis looks trés elegante in the video for her most recent single, "L'incendie." How could she not, wearing the splendid 1970s-era Loris Azzaro buttercup chiffon dress she found at Decades?

Vanessa's not the only singer who knows her vintage. Kylie Minogue showed us her softer side last year in her ballad version of "I Believe In You," wearing a Bob Mackie gown that's fit for a diva. If it's impossibly chic and one-of-a-kind, it must be from Decades!

2007 SAG Awards

Jada does it again. Ms. Pinkett-Smith has a love for vintage fashion but never look vintagy in her finds. This stunning hot pink Bob Mackie she found at Decades is a testament to this undying style that she has made all her own. We just cannot wait to see what she dons for the Oscars.
