A BROOCH IS NOT A THING OF THE PAST

We understand that for many women wearing a brooch is a thing of the past, memories of your grandma or Madeleine Albright might scare you away from owning a brooch or pin. But do not be afraid. There are other ways to wear a brooch other than pinned on your lapel. Wear them to fasten your scarf, use it as a hair pin, or pile them up on your favorite chunky sweater. These amazing vintage pieces from Chanel would look striking together on a fitted wool dress or use the pin as a closure to a cardigan or low cut blouse. The Lacroix heart and cross should be fastened on your favorite hat and not only on Christmas!

LAST OF THE LACROIX

If you are not getting married in Monique Lhuillier, why don't get married in vintage?   What would be more chic than a vintage Christian Lacroix cream taffeta gown from the maestro of later 20th century Parisian  Haute Couture who sadly no longer designs his eponymous brand?

A strapless gown with a massive brooch and tiers of ornate lace that has all the hallmarks of Lacroix's legendary designs that defined French fashion.  There are also elements of traditional Russian folkloric dress and the brooch (which is removable) reminds me of a spider by way of the Byzantine Empire.

Eggshell gowns are not just for brides, so this could be an ideal white-tie gala option for those who get invited to white-tie galas.  You know who you are!

STRAP ONE ON!

Is there anything that can transform your look more spontaneously and dramatically than strapping on a wicked belt? Well something wicked this way has come into the hollowed walls of Decades and I say strap one on!  These belts all have one thing in common: black leather with gilt chain details and all from the 1980s.  These aren't belts for those who are afraid to be a little wicked.  As Maria McKee once sang "Ways to be Wicked" so make a bold statement from Ferre, Lacroix, Versace, or my personal favorite Monseur Anonyme.  Measurements have all been provided below and don't WAIST too much time since let the power of these belts transform you!

Will 5772 be better than 2011?

Good news! You don't have to be Jewish to celebrate Rosh Hashana. Take advantage and a second chance for a New Year's wish or resolution with this being the first Saturday of 5772. And what to wear? Christian Lacroix, of course. A bronze lame dress with ultra high slits that reveal shorts. Okay not appropriate for most Saturday services, but slightly demure with the addition of the shorts, no? Loving the crystal trim, boat neckline, and modern and vintage look of this gown. Plus it feels like a swimsuit, packs up so easy, and you could really wear this for NYE on 31 December. It could be 1930s, it is 1990s, but it's totally 21st century. Perfect for 5772. It's gonna be better than 2011! Anything is better than 2011, or 2010, or 2009, or 2008.

THE RAINBOW DRESS

The temperatures this summer don't seem to drop anytime soon and yet we are already planning shopping for fall. We couldn't resist this multicolor striped knit dress by Christian Lacroix. It is eye catching and as fashion trends this season are all playful colors and stripes, you have nailed two trends with one dress which will surely add much needed color to the usually black winter uniforms.
Yes, it has all the rainbow hues however, this is not a reference to greek mythology where the rainbow is the path between earth and heaven, this dress is what most likely will be your path to a colorful winter.

Luxurious Lacroix

If you are in LA this weekend, chances are you have an event or five to attend. Oscar week is like Christmas, New Years, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and your sixteenth birthday all rolled into one. As you can probably guess this is high season here at Decades. For that reason we are rolling out the ball gowns at high speed to for all you lovely ladies that need the "perfect dress."

The Christian Lacroix gown below is an amazing iridescent rose taffeta adorned with a gold and lacquer floral/butterfly brooch. The full skirt is achieved by layers of soft multi-colored tulle gently tucked beneath the taffeta. The house of Christian Lacroix sadly is no longer with us, making this stunning gown a piece of fashion history.

MORE PATOU FOR YOU

We didn't get enough of the historic Jean Patou Haute Couture by Christian Lacroix archival dresses from Spring/Summer 1987 up on the blog because you guys just bought them from the runway photos! We appreciate you making our lives easier, but we do still have a few to post that haven't sold sight unseen, such as, this butter yellow taffeta pouf dress known as "Hawaii" aka Exit 36. As you know, the collection was never produced because Lacroix left Patou for his eponymous-house with backing by LVMH. Patou sued Lacroix, cancelled the collection, archived the samples, and CL took the pouf with him which became iconic at the House of Lacroix. Own an original pouf and a one of a kind example of Haute Couture!

SPRING SUMMER 1987

Locked up since 1987, these Christian Lacroix for Jean Patou Haute Couture dresses are now available at DECADES! Fashionistas will know this collection was never produced as the owners of Patou sued and won a six million judgement against Lacroix for breach of contract when he simultaneously received funding for his LVMH-funded eponymous house. These are all ONE OF A KIND. Detailed photos will follow in the next week but we predict many of these will sell just from their incredible archival runway images before we post additional pictures.
