A STAR IS GONE

Here at Decades, we are deeply saddened at the loss of one of fashion's brightest stars, Vidal Sassoon. Throughout his career, Sassoon was always at the forefront of fashion, creating several seminal sartorial aesthetics. It goes without saying that his influence reached far beyond mere hairstyles.

Of course, true beauty is evidenced both inside and out. Perhaps it's because Sassoon was a true gentleman, the epitomé of grace, style, generosity and kindness, that propelled him to become one of fashions greatest innovators.

Cameron Silver, our co-owner along with Christos Garkinos, says of Sassoon, "I have had the pleasure of knowing Vidal Sassoon since 1997 when Decades opened and he attended our opening fete with his wonderful wife Ronnie.  He has always represented to me the power of hard work over adversity to achieve incredible things. He not only revolutionized hair, but was an example of being a responsible citizen of the world through his philanthropy. Vidal was a man of true elegance and taste and I am do honored to have known him. Vidal and Ronnie were early supporters of Decades and my thoughts and prayers are with Ronnie and the Sassoon family. He made the world a better place and will always be an inspiration."

Rest in peace, Vidal Sassoon. You are truly and dearly missed.

SHOW TIME

Well, good news is hard to keep under wraps, even Commes des Garcons wraps. WWD (see below), Fashionista and The Daily Front Row have all reported on the "Decades" tube debut. You should definitely check out the interviews in each article.

Of course, it's really interesting to hear Decades co-owner Christos Garkinos discuss his and business partner Cameron Silver's decision to enter the reality forum on Bravo TV but the real reason to check these babies out is for seminal Christos quotes. My own personal favorite new catchphrase: "Fashion Porn".

While I guess you'll be watching this in the privacy of your own living room, there's no need to duck into a dark store at the end of some strip mall to get your hands on it in the first place. In fact, you can wear your best dress and pal up with your gals to proudly tune in to episode number uno. And stay tuned for listing deets!

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER AND FRIENDS

Jean Paul Gaultier was in San Francisco last week celebrating his fashion in the north city by the bay. The beautiful Vanessa Getty attended the dinner in designer's honor, wearing what else but a dress by the designer himself from Decades. The dress was selected by Christos Garkinos from Decades carefully curated collection of all things Gaultier which is on sale on our website: decadestwo.com. It is not hard for Vanessa to look amazing, but in this dress, in true Gaultier form, she had all eyes on her.

GILT TRIP

All our bags are packed and we're ready to go . . . to San Francisco. March 16th aka Fog City Friday, we'll be setting up shop in the International Mark Hopkins Hotel at One Nob Hill, the California Suite, 18th Fl., from 10a - 9p. Of course, we're bringing along a treasure trove of vintage and modern fashion finds, but we're also packing some serious staples created by one Monsieur Jean Paul Gaultier, hand-curated by Cameron Silver and Christos Garkinos to celebrate the designer's upcoming museum exhibit.

As I'm sure all you San Francisco fashion-lovers know, Jean Paul Gaultier's traveling retrospective, From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, will open at the end of March at the deYoung Museum. So, should you want to look gorgeous in Gaultier for the opening of the exhibit, we'll be in town next week to help you get dressed in the best from the iconic French designer.

And last but not least, we saddled up with our friends at Gilt City San Francisco and just launched an offer for the trunk show that includes more than a few deals and steals. Can't make the trunk show? Not to worry. There are packages that can be used in our L.A. boutique or on our website through June 7, 2012. Pretty sweet, no?

READY FOR OUR CLOSE UP. AS ALWAYS.

Here at Decades, if you ever wonder what we're up to, in addition to hand-picking fabulous vintage and modern clothing and accessories, planning trunk shows, shooting pics of those aforementioned fabulous dresses etc. to put up on our website and send to clients, pulling pieces for stylists about to shoot, style scribing on our blog, developing online "happenings" such as our flash sales and daily curated collections, and dressing all of the lovely ladies (and a few gents as well) we're so privileged to work with for their upcoming events, (phew), there's a solid chance we're looking at Christos and Cameron's latest red carpet appearance online. So, I thought I'd take a sec to show you my particular fave of their all of their red carpet arrivals. (Btw, there's no excuse dudes, for not keeping up in the fashion department. Just take a few cues from these two.)

Personally, I love this footage with Rachael Harris at Cameron's Art of Elysium event. Not only is Rachael super pretty in pink in signature Philip Hulitar, but the men look pretty swank too. It's hard to keep your cool in front of ten thousand flashing bulbs, let alone smile for the cameras. These three, not only manage to show off their pearly whites, but have a giggle or two. Poise really is the best accessory. Next to a vintage Hermès navy leather and toile canvas handbag.

OSCARS OSCARS OSCARS

As we recouperate from the madness that Oscars Week is, everything is still hazy. We were thrilled when Jean Dujardin won, happy to see Maryl Streep add another statuette in her collection, weirdly obsessed with Angelina Jolie's black velvet Versace gown..and her right leg...elated to see Gwyneth Paltrow perfect in Tom Ford, but most of all we were happy to see Melissa McCarthy in her custom made Marina Rinaldi gown. The most important thing in a ceremony like this, which always tends to be on the boring/conservative side, is to look beautiful, not the dress or the borrowed jewels or the clutch, but the woman herself. Melissa looked radiant. Her smile was contagious. Her awe of being recognized was visible. She looked like a real beautiful woman who took the time to appreciate a surreal event like the Oscars and the red carpet.
With that said the following are some snapshots from the world of Decades and our beautiful friends celebrating last weekend.

SET YOUR TIVO'S PRONTO

You may remember last September, when Cameron and Christos were "cast" in an episode of Jane by Design? Well, their episode debuts tonight!

The duo, who play themselves, come to the fashion rescue of Andie MacDowell's character, who's desperately seeking Halston. And of course, Cameron and Christos score the desired dress. Kinda like what they do everyday on the regular. So, perhaps not much of an acting stretch but we're still thinking Emmy 2013.

Be sure to Tivo up and tune in to Jane by Design, tonight at 9/8c on ABC Family!

IT's MADONNA FRIDAY! AND WE'VE GOT THE INSIDE FASHION SCOOP!

I hear there is a football game happening this weekend. Whatever. Madonna is performing at halftime and that’s exciting news for everyone at Decades!

The queen of pop has always had a special place in my heart.

We are from the same state: Michigan.

Went to the same school: University of Michigan

And both became pop icons. Well, in my dreams.

Anyhow, today Madge dropped her video for Gimme All your Luvin' and the football-themed ditty has us dancing in the halls.

And here’s the inside fashion scoop: In the first set up, Madonna is wearing a leather jacket from Bebe, along with shorts from our friends Kiki de Montparnasse, and then in her lace transformation, it’s Dolce and Gabbana. (Oh and throw in a bit of Norma Kamali undergear too).

And, if you're really feeling Madonna, why not pick up a D&G beaded bustier, verrrrrrrrrrry similar to the one HRH wore to the Truth or Dare premier, available at Decades.

48 hours to the biggest show on earth. Oh, and go Giants.

-Christos
