MINTY AND FROTHY

If you have great legs, this is your dress.  If you are artsy, this is your dress.  If you have a broad rib cage, this is your dress.  What is this dress?  Pierre Cardin Haute Couture from 1979 with a silver leather band attached to waves of textured organza in the lightest shade of mint.  The rib cage will fit a size eight, but can easily be taken in for a smaller bust.  I just see this on someone with terrific legs who won't be flustered when Bill Cunningham suddenly starts snapping away at your and your pic ends up in his The New York Times column on Sunday.

GREETINGS FROM 37,000 FEET

I am currently on a flight from SFO to JFK. I love and hate wireless on planes :) I haven't blogged in a week because I managed to go to spend Labor Day weekend in NYC, then went to Montreal to see the AMAZING Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit, followed by Dallas for our pop and then yesterday my lovely friends Laura and Evan Greenberg got married at the most stunning wedding in Napa. The bride was breathtaking in Monique Lhullier (does anyone do a better modern wedding dress) and the setting was a private estate surrounded by a vineyard, olive trees, a modernist mansion, and the party was Moroccan themed under a massive tent. It was perfect. I guess I am feeling a bit of nūptiālis, so I wanted to post this early 1960s Anonymous Haute Couture white paillette gown that I think deserves a consideration for a cool bride, an Emmy nominee, or an attendee of a glam gala (it's September and the social calendar of philanthropic causes and balls is heating up!). The swirl pattern of the paillettes is mermaid-a-licious against your skin. Speaking of which, the back of the dress sure shows a gorgeous back. The waist and high neck are defined by white jet pyramid beads applied in the most sophisticated manner.

Stunning, Sophisticated Dior Haute Couture

A while back this stunning lady purchased this stunning gown. Doesn't she look radiant and regal like a royal princess? Well she actually is! Here is is Mneera Al Khalifa en route to her uncle King Hamad Al Khalifa son's fete, in Christian Dior Haute Couture from Decades.
We can't be happier to see this beautiful dress on such a beautiful woman.

Looking to get your hands on a piece of history? It would be hard to top this sumptuous silk organza creation by legendary couturier Christian Dior. Crafted in 1954, during the pinnacle of his career, its long, flowing skirt and pinched waist epitomize the proportions that made Dior's New Look a standard of sophistication and femininity for decades. The wind-blown floral print, too, is evocative of the Belle Epoque style. It's stylish and timeless.

SO AUDREY BUT NOT GIVENCHY

It was 1954, it was in L'officiel and it is officially fabulous still today. It seemed straight out of Audrey's closet, but it isn't Givenchy. Rather it was and is Jacques Fath Haute Couture and it's here at Decades. An oyster hued silk satin ultimate cocktail dress with lavish embroidery of bronze and gold, it is a dress worthy of Audrey -- yesterday and today. We rather love the idea of Natalie Portman wearing this manifestation of vintage Parisian Haute Couture as she reminds us of Audrey. Audrey of yesterday or Audrey of today, have faith in the sublime Jacques Fath.

MORE PATOU FOR YOU

We didn't get enough of the historic Jean Patou Haute Couture by Christian Lacroix archival dresses from Spring/Summer 1987 up on the blog because you guys just bought them from the runway photos! We appreciate you making our lives easier, but we do still have a few to post that haven't sold sight unseen, such as, this butter yellow taffeta pouf dress known as "Hawaii" aka Exit 36. As you know, the collection was never produced because Lacroix left Patou for his eponymous-house with backing by LVMH. Patou sued Lacroix, cancelled the collection, archived the samples, and CL took the pouf with him which became iconic at the House of Lacroix. Own an original pouf and a one of a kind example of Haute Couture!

SPRING SUMMER 1987

Locked up since 1987, these Christian Lacroix for Jean Patou Haute Couture dresses are now available at DECADES! Fashionistas will know this collection was never produced as the owners of Patou sued and won a six million judgement against Lacroix for breach of contract when he simultaneously received funding for his LVMH-funded eponymous house. These are all ONE OF A KIND. Detailed photos will follow in the next week but we predict many of these will sell just from their incredible archival runway images before we post additional pictures.

LET'S GET SERIOUS

And when we mean serious, we mean Christian Dior Haute Couture! How absolutely divine is this 1956 jade silk faille cocktail dress? Earlier this month, John Galliano showed his Dior Couture show at the original Avenue Montaigne salon, just as Mr. Dior did in the 1950s. Even the looks in this intimate presentation were very 50s-esque. We love everything "esque" but we love the originals, too. This original Christian Dior corseted cocktail dress is numbered 83048 and the model is called "Delphine." We have taken very elaborate photos on the enchanting Amanda who couldn't help smiling while modeling this feminine and lady-like dress that would be so exquisite on the right Emmy presenter or nominee come September. The Dior white and black tulle cocktail dress sold quite quickly, so we are certain that the right slim "Delphine" who reads our blog regularly and is a narrow size 4 or 2, will be delighted to add some serious Couture to her closet.

FOREVER AND EVER

Every woman needs a forever gown in her closet. It's the gown that you know will always fit; always be appropriate; and may be re-invited a dozen times with different accessories and jewelry. It's the type of gown that is season less and timeless. It's a gown that is amazing with evening flats or sky high sandals. It's a gown that wouldn't look out of place at the Oscars or the AMFAR dinner in Cannes, but is also rarefied for a dinner at the White House. Here is that gown: an Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture black silk satin halter that we feel can be worn as pictured or back-to-front. A sensual bias cut with neck and hip bows, this is a gown that defines elegance and proves that subtle drama is as desirable as a gown with a swooping skirt and a cornucopia of embroidery. This one is a keeper.

Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture black bias cut halter, c. mid 1970s. Modern 4 to 6 SOLD
