RAQUEL WELCH WORE THIS

Yup, this comes out of the fabulous closet of legendary beauty and icon Raquel Welch. I am waiting for her Loris Azzaro and Bob Mackie pieces, but we got into the Norma Kamali section and this jumpsuit is out of control. I wanted to post the detail photos of the pants as they are drop crotch pantaloons that get skinny from the knee down. This is what I call a "Beautiful People" look. I mean you have to be confident in your beauty or style to pull this one off....something Ms. Welch has in spades. Composed of gold and silver lurex infused chiffon the belted jumpsuit is pure late 70s glam disco chic. I can't wait to find out who buys this. Sure it may seem only Lady GaGa could get away with it, but if you love Haider Ackermann (obsessed) this is right on brand for you! P.S. The Gucci windows right now have a very similar look in their stores right now...but this is way more original!

FRINGE WITH BENEFITS

We get a lot of calls from people excited to sell their vintage treasures. Every call is a possibility of something fabulous, but alas not always a guarantee of closet filled with temptations. Case in point: Last week a lovely woman contacted me about her clothing which included Givenchy Couture, Loris Azzaro, and this Norma Kamali ombre fringe dress. I had previously purchased a great navy and white Lanvin a few years ago from the same stylish woman, so naturally I was anticipating a major haul. Alas, the only piece that moved me was this Kamali fringe dress. She wore it while performing in Las Vegas circa 1980 when she had a hit disco single (dying to find the You Tube video!).

I always love fringe and am always drawn to anything tonal or ombre. This is a dress for celebrating and dancing. I must inform you that the skirt is completely revealing, so when the fringe shimmies, you may be showing your hiney. Consequently, when the original owner performed in this dress, she wore matching pants. If hot pants aren't your thing, I love figuring out sartorial solutions with clients, so perhaps we could add a jersey slip or a body suit. I would avoid spanks. Think of me as a friend with benefits (stylish ones) and this dress as fun fringe with benefits!

HAVING A FAT DAY?

If you are guilty of indulging in too much Halloween candy over the weekend, then put on this Dianne B cotton jumpsuit and feel guilt-free as there is plenty of room for an expanding waste line. But quicker than you can chow down on a Mr. Goodbar, simply throw on a belt and unbutton the top buttons and suddenly this shapeless "mechanic's suit" reveals a new you...Slim Fast never worked so fast! From sexless to sexy just with the addition of a waist cinch. The pattern of the jumpsuit is actually quite chic with seams that look like pleats. The pants also have buttons at the hem so it's possible to bunch them up above your knees to create a Pantaloon-effect, which could be ultra dramatic worn avec knee-high boots! The original owner is convinced Norma Kamali designed this, but the label says Dianne B, who was clearly influenced by the legendary Kamali.

BEFORE JUICY

Before Juicy Couture, there was Norma Kamali deftly designing "sweats" that brought a lot of class to a fabric associated with medicine balls and stinky high school gyms. The early 80s red fleece maxi dress below is the ultimate in casual and athletic dressing. Throw it on over your Lululemons and you can go from home to yoga with some flair. Add a vintage YSL belt as we did below and opaque tights with flat boots and you can fly from Chicago looking chic en route to Chile. Of course if you have a long haul flight may we suggest you also carry the Hermes Red Garance 40 cm Epsom Birkin along for the ride? It suddenly makes the Kamali as luxurious as Loro Piana Baby Cashmere!

Calling all Curves! We love a good Norma Kamali ruched dress. It brings out a women's curves and her dresses are so light and perfect for travel and wrinkle-free. Seriously, you can wrap this up in a ball and throw it in the bottom of your roller bag, take an over-night flight to Nice, pop onto a helicopter to Monte Carlo, and squeeze your booty into this sexy number. Come the witching hour and you will have every high roller placing their bets with a distracted eye because of the impression you will make.

NORMA KAMALI LOVES A SEXY BRIDE

Norma Kamali fans meet the bride-to-be. Brides, you know who you are, tried on a dozen dresses at Monique Lhuillier, another dozen at Vera Wang, and still haven't found your winner, well this is it. Make your life easy, go goddess, wear jersey, look sexy, and throw on a strapp-y sandal and call it a day. This is a fabulous white jersey ruched and empire waisted (think an ode to Vionnet) gown with a titillating asymmetric hem. If it's good enough for a bride, trust us, it's good enough for a client looking for a black-tie summer option, too. Fits our size four mannequin nicely, but its jersey and forgiving so we think a size 6 can work her magic in this, too. The label is missing on the Kamali. This things happen, but we weren't going to pass this up because of the label. We know our Kamali and we think you will want to know her, too!

NORMA KAMALI BLACK AND BLUE

This is the type of dress that flatters so many figures. The sexy decolletage has enough fabric that you reveal, but not too much. The wide black waist band is quite slimming and the full skirt is wonderfully flattering on so many shapes. Kamali makes a woman look her best, so surrender to the black and blue.
