Swirl Whimsy

Louis Feraud once said "a dress is like a caress, and that is a declaration of love." This French designer has dressed the Parisian elite since the 1950s. However, it wasn't until Brigitte Bardot was spotted wearing his designs in Cannes that his designs gained international notoriety. He established an American following in the 80s once his suits and dresses hit the airways of TV series Dallas.

The Haute Couture pink dress below is ruched and gathered in all the right places. Swirl detailing on the bust and below the hip provide both a whimsical effect and focal point for this design. A medium dress length makes it ideal for vary heights. Whether you're attending a wedding, garden party, or simply love to collect vintage, we think you'll find this dress designed with you in mind.

NAUGHTY-CUL CHIC!

This mid 1980s Louis Feraud Haute Couture gown is naughty, but very nautical, so we call it naughty-cull. Why is is naughty? Well it has a slit up to there. Why is it nautical, we like to think that blue silk crepe de chine accented with a blue and white silk ruffled rosette screams "get thee to Capri!"

The asymmetric neckline is very sophisticated and the seaming of the back is quite dramatic. A silk ruffled rosette can look a bit over-the-top, but this evening gown remains chic without being chintz. And now it's time for Decades to "Sail Away" for the night.

Black & White Stripes Are Where It's At!

Fashion has always taken cues from authors, artists, and great cultural innovators. We couldn't help but notice a trend as we watched this over-the-top video from soul duo Gnarls Barkley this week: black and white stripes are where's it at!

First we brought you this Louis Feraud Haute Couture... now we have a gorgeous Valentino from the 1980s, a voluminous satin ballgown with a faux-button bustier and swashbuckling fuchsia sash at the waist. It's a loud piece, to be sure, but nothing in comparison to the unsigned sample pictured below it. (We think it could be Guy Laroche!) It's a completely outlandish party dress with bow patterned balloon skirt and a striped bustier. It's perfect for a fashion eccentric or a party girl with a sense of humor!

Valentino Boutique Black & White Satin Bustier Dress with Fuchsia Sash, c. 1980s. Fits a contemporary size 2 to narrow 4. SOLD

Unsigned Design Sample (Possibly Guy Laroche), Black & White Satin Party Dress with Balloon Skirt, c. 1980s. SOLD

BLACK AND WHITE BY LOUIS FERUAD HAUTE COUTURE

If you don't want to wear black, but white is too severe, how about this black and white op-art looking Louis Feraud Haute Couture gown from the late 1970s that mixes the best of these two contrasting colors.

The pailette black sequin straps join a bustier of black and white pailette sequins in a "stripes and circles" motif which connect to a harem-inspired black and white silk stripe skirt with a nice high slit.

Give your fans an optical illusion in this fab Feraud gown!
