WRINKLE FREE

Issey Miyake pleated dresses have been the go-to for art-loving patrons around the world hoping from one opening to another.  They were more or less de rigeur during the 1980s and 1990s and I say let's bring them back, but take them beyond the galleries and onto the red carpet.

If you travel as much as I do and aren't into steaming, ironing, or paying the hotel to spruce up your lewk, may I suggest revisiting Mikaye so you can go from unpack to glamazon in one fail swoop.  You know I wear some extreme looks so I can't wait to find a Miyake men's pleated tux.  I just got a pair of pleated pants in Kuwait and I think I may just wear them to something Oscar weekend!

THE BIG SCHLEP

Do you ever have "fat" days?  You know the days when you just don't feel 100% chic because your colonic practitioner called in sick, so your tummy isn't as taut and flat as Miley's, but you can't call in sick and say to your boss "I'm having a fat day," so when the going gets tough put on some Issey Miyake.  Managing to be both sophisticated and ultra-comfy without looking like an adult-sized onesie, this linen pinstripe jumpsuit has a front bib to cover the bloat and adjustable shoulder straps so you can show as much decolettage as you care to show.  I actually would love to see this worn in Aix en Provence with a big floppy hat and a pair of espradrilles in a last hoorah to summer.  Although linen may scream summer, truth is this will be very wearable through September and October especially during LA's Indian summer.  You can look chic when you feel more schlep.

Issey Miyake linen jumpsuit with shoulder straps, c.1980's. Marked size M, modern size 4 - 6. SOLD

HIGH LOW CHLOE

As we all know, New Yorkers love to talk and Big Apple dwellers love them some Chloe Sevigny dish. It seems that everyone I know kicked it with at Liquid Sky back in the day or spotted Sevigny as a vintage-clad teen skulking through the East Village when she allegedly eschewed handbags in favor of carrying her essentials in a white plastic deli bag. Several years later, Sevigny sightings are still as numerous as they were in the early 90s, when Sevigny interned at Sassy and was the subject of Jay McInerney's infamous New Yorker send-up, Chloe's Scene, and discussion/dissection of what makes an "It" girl.

Sigh. What happened to the "It" girl? Where has she gone? In all likelihood, she's left the city entirely, and is posting up somewhere in the country in a geodesic dome that's she built herself while she cans and pickles and quilts.

If you ask me, Chloe is one of, if not the, last truly great "It" girls. She eschews stylists and does her own hair and make-up and consistently knocks it out of the park on the red carpet. Her style is truly inimitable plus her affinity for vintage and her ability to know how to wear it in a way that always feels modern, makes her a truly fashionable gal. And I'm not the only one. I'm pretty sure that the gang over at Opening Ceremony finds her pretty chic as they've tapped her to collaborate on an in-house line of clothing season after season.

Of course, seeing Chloe in Decades picks is always a blast. Here's a few of my favorite Chloe Sevigny selections over the years:
